Hi ,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to print in color from your HP OfficeJet 4655 All-in-One Printer.

This issue could occur if the print in black only option is checked in the drivers or the color cartridge may be empty or defective.

Let's go through a few steps to fix this issue.

  1. In the software application that you are using to print, click the File menu.
  2. Click Print. The Print dialog box opens.
  3. Make sure that the name of the HP printer you are using displays in the printer Name box. If necessary, use the drop-down list to select your printer.
  4. Click the Properties button. The Properties dialog box opens.
  5. Check the options on the property tabs to make sure that the appropriate color options are selected.
  6. If there is a checkmark in the box by Print in Grayscale, click in the box to remove the checkmark, and then click OK. Try printing again.

You may also follow the link: Color Ink Not Printing

If the issue still persists, then I suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the drivers by following the steps listed below:

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing any one of the following:

(a). Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.

(b) From the Start menu or the Start screen and open Devices and Printers. Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window. Click on the Drivers tab.

2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.

3. Click the Remove button.

3. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day.

Greetings

Thanks for the post.

I understand that you get a "Please wait while Windows configures status" message when you use HP Solution Center, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Are you able to print from your Windows 10 computer?

Firstly, HP Solution Center is discontinued and is replaced with HP Print Assistant (icon of the printer created on the desktop of the computer.) Click here to know more.

If you are able to print and need assistance in scanning on your Windows 10 computer, you can use HP Printer Assistant or install HP Scan and Capture app.

Refer to this HP Article to know about the methods available to scan on a Windows computer.

Let me know if this helped.

Second laptop always sees printer as offline

Hi,

We have a recurring issue (now with multiple laptops) is when my husband's laptop constantly sees our HP Envy 4500 all-in-one printer offline. Neither of his laptops could connect to the printer, despite, of course, having all the drivers installed. Ironically, the latest laptop is HP and it doesn't work with HP printer!

Only my laptop sees it as online. We've tried print and scan doctor and a number of other options from the HP site - nothing helped. Would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks in advance

HP does not recommend refilling cartridges.

With that said, just follow the instructions on your ink refill cartridges web site as they are the ones you need to contact.

These settings are for setting up your wireless or wired printers to:

* Stay connected to your router
* Fix printer ‘offline’ status
* Wake from sleep mode
* Speed up wireless printing

While DHCP is convenient, devices such as printers (wired and wireless) should always be assigned a static (fixed) IP address manually to avoid conflicts on your wireless network and MUST be outside the DHCP address range of the router. This is because printers are the only external devices that do not have the ability to automatically interrupt the router for a new DHCP address once the least time expires.

After setting the static IP, the computer(s) must be updated under Printer Properties/Ports to show a Standard TCP/IP port with the printers’ new static IP address.

1. Set a static IP in the printer outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).  This Static IP is important as DHCP IP addresses will change upon different power up sequences of your devices.  You always want your printer to come up with the same IP address all the time.  See how to do this here:

http://www.watchingthenet.com/linksys-tip-assign-static-ip-address-to-printer-while-using-dhcp-on-your-wireless-network.html

This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this first if needed.  Then after setting the static IP in the printer, the computer(s) must be updated under Printer Properties/Ports to show a Standard TCP/IP port with the printers IP address.

To see why this problem exists and how to fix it, watch this video here for Windows.   Scroll down for MAC information.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEqvUKxWmq4

How to set a Standard TCP/IP port.  This is important.

a.    Click Start/Devices and Printers.  Right click on your HP Printer.  Select Printer Properties.  Select the Ports tab at the top.
b.    Select Add Port.  Select Standard TCP/IP Port.  Select New Port.
c.    Follow the Add Port Wizard.  Under Printer Name or IP Address, input the Static IP address you just set from the above information.  Example:  192.168.1.15.  The IP address will be copied under Port Name.  This is OK to leave this alone or you can put in your Printer Model.
d.    Select Next and Finish the Wizard.

If you create a TCP/IP port without a static IP above, you may lose your TCP/IP connection and have the same issue. This is because your network has powered up differently giving you a different DHCP address to the printer that does not match the TCP/IP address above.  This could occur at anytime just like the video shows.

For MAC PCs perform the above Static IP setting in the router and then watch here on how to perform your IP setting for MAC computers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5tNFjEBDOw

By performing the above, the printers Embedded Web Server (EWS) will now work all the time by going to your Printers Static IP address in your browser.

2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off/Sleep/Energy Saving Mode' is disabled and/or the System Mode Time Out is set to zero (0) if your printer supports this.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off, or use the Printer Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS). Also check your Printer Properties. This feature is automatically disabled when the printer is connected to a computer or mobile device, a network, or a fax line (if supported).  You also may not find this setting.

3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, disable IPv6 in the printer.

4. Make sure printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not into a UPS, power strip or surge protector. This may cause the printer to intermittently drop offline and disconnect.

5.  Make sure your printer and router are at least 5 feet apart from each other.

Additional steps to be taken if you continue to have the problem (if they are posted)…

I've had it. I tried everything possible that has been listed. Now even Print Assistant doesn't see printer, even though it is working for now. Using IP address that was listed as a solution, lasted only 5 days, then had to run Wireless setup again.

This printer is a disaster.

My brand new HP 4511 Envy cuts off header & words. I can't read kid's printable worksheets.

Hello,

I just installed my brand new HP 4511 Envy printer to my computer and all of the print jobs wording are cut off. Not only is the header cut off, but the words/numbers/data are as well. The header, pictures, wording on the test sheet, alignment and diagnostic page were all cut off too. It was hard to make out what the document was instructing me to do next. Once the printer was installed I tried printing free math worksheets for my kid's homeschool and all of the numbers and header were cut off. I read something about changing the margin on the printers, but I cannot find where to do that on this printer. I'm not even sure if that is the issue. Now I have to pack up all the kids and head to the local libary to print out my review sheets. I wasted a whole morning on this issue. Please assist asap! Thank you!

You need a firmware update.

This Post pertains to the following OfficeJet products listed in the following table that has new firmware that disables the cartridge security affecting cartridges using Non-HP security chips.  If your printer is not listed here, it is not affected.

See here.  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/Dedicated-to-the-best-printing-experience/m-p/5783870/highlight/true#M575869

OfficeJet Pro X451dn/dw, X476dn/dw, X551dw, X576dw    HP 970 and HP 971    17-Oct

The optional firmware update to remove dynamic security is now available. For more information and direct links to the firmware updates, see Dynamic Security Feature Affecting Use of Non-HP Cartridges here.

I'm Back!  I've been printing for a couple days now and my printer is working just fine.  I'll feel like I'm out of the woods if it continues for another few days.....cross fingers.  Wish I had run across HP Print & Scan Doctor sooner; I think that's what cured my printer's headache.

Thank you, Chimney 83 for your reply.

Yes, I have no problem to print with the Photosmart 6100 series from whatever of my 2 PC's (direct connection with the PC running Windows 7 64 bits,  network Ethernet connection with the other PC running Windows 10 64 bits).

I unchecked the "HP Digital imaging" item in the list of the "startup" tab after having launched "msconfig". Now the popping window "Wait while Windows configures status - gathering required information" appears only when I  launch the "HP solutions center". Its annoying, but I'm still able to scan documents,  I have only to wait 1 to 2 minutes until the popping window stops.

I'm not shure having properly parameterized the Fax, which I don't use anymore. But I succeeded in the Fax test after installing the software.

The only visible problem I faced when installing AIO_CDA_FSW_Full_WinWW_130_140.exe was at the end of the installation,  where the registering process (I think) has been interrupted by script problems. Anyway,  I don't think it's useful to register again my 10 years old printer.

I think I already faced the same script issue when I installed the software for the second time in 2014. The second version (2014) and the third one (2017) have the same look and feel but are different from the original version (DVD included in the 2006 printer bundle).

So, I have no problem neither to print nor to scan,  I would only like to get rid of the annoying popping message.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your response!  I actually did most of the steps listed in the article -- cleaned print heads, etc - uninstalled printer and reinstalled drivers from website and the printer is now working fine.   I appreciate the resources you pointed me to and think they would have done the trick, but all is well.

Installed new HP61 black ink cartridge into my printer and now it says it needs to be replaced.

I just installed a brand new HP61 black ink cartridge into my printer and it says Ink Cartridge Problem(s) The following ink cartridge must be replaced and shows the sideways two triangles indicating the black cartridge.

I unplugged the printer while it was on from the back and then unplugged it from the wall and waited 15 second before plugging it back in and turning it back on. This did not work.

I then removed the black ink cartridge, unplugged the printer from the back and  and using a q-tip that I had moistened with distilled water gently cleaned both the brand new ink cartridges copper contacts and the contacts in the printer itself. I waited 15 minutes and replaced the ink cartridge and received the same message.
