Printer Failure

It says “There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP.” I already tried turning it on and off again.

I have tried all those above listed "fixes", multiple times. To this day (May 4, 2025), the only way I can get this printer to print is to turn my computer off and back on! Of course, the print job has to already be left in the print que from previous attempt to print. I may now be past the 90 day period since purchase. I can't constantly try to come back here to "walk through" things already done, and I don't have time to keep trying to contact HP... which has evidently completely shut down customer service. I created a (service) case number back on March 12, 2025 and have not received any contact from HP. I do wish I had purchased another brand of printer! It appears that I have purchased a very espensive paper-weight.

@Les372258, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error you're seeing — "filter failed" and "Les Sims"— typically means that the macOS printer system can't process the print job due to a misconfigured or incompatible printer driver.

HP ENVY Photo 7155 All-in-One Printer supports upto MacOs 15.

Please follow these steps,
Reset the Printing System

This clears out any corrupted drivers or queues:

  • Go to System Settings> Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control + Click) in the printer list and choose Reset printing system.
  • Confirm the reset. This removes all printers and scanners.
  • Re-add your printer manually.

Remove Old HP Software

To avoid conflicts:

  • Open Finder> Applications.
  • Delete any HP or HP Smart-related software (right-click > Move to Trash).
  • Then, go to:
~/Library/Printers/ and remove the hp folder if present.
(Use Finder > Go > Go to Folder... and paste the path above.)

Reinstall the Printer Using AirPrint

AirPrint is Apple’s built-in driverless printing system and usually works flawlessly:

  • Connect your HP 7155 via Wi-Fi or USB.
  • Go to System Settings> Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + button to add a printer.
  • Wait for your HP 7155 to appear.
  • Under "Use:", make sure AirPrint is selected (not HP driver).
  • Click Add.

Optional: Use HP Smart App

HP Smart adds scanning support and other features:

  • Download it from the Mac App Store.
  • Open the app and re-add your HP 7155 from there.

@Scott342, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Error Code 75 on HP LaserJet M234sdwe!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Error 75 typically indicates a persistent paper jam or a related error with your HP LaserJet M234sdwe printer. Here's a systematic approach to try and resolve the issue:

Turn Off and Unplug the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds before plugging it back in. This can help reset the printer's internal memory and clear any temporary faults.

Check All Paper Paths:

  • Carefully inspect and clear any paper jams from all accessible areas including the input tray, output bin, and the duplexer (if your model has one).
  • Remove the toner cartridge and check for jammed paper inside the toner cartridge chamber.

Install Paper Properly:

  • Make sure that the paper is loaded correctly in the tray and that it is not wrinkled or folded. The paper guides should be snug against the edges of the paper stack.

Inspect Rollers:

  • Look over the rollers inside the printer for any small bits of paper or debris. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water, if necessary.

Reset the Printer:

  • Once everything is inspected and cleared, turn the printer back on. Perform a printer reset through the settings menu or by unplugging it, as mentioned above.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@Tej_2025, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Reset the Printer: Sometimes a simple reset can resolve communication issues. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Check Connection: Ensure that all cables are securely connected. If you're using a wireless connection, make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Update Printer Software: Make sure that you have the latest drivers and software installed for your printer. You can check for updates on the HP Support website.

Clean the Contacts: Carefully clean the electrical contacts on both the ink cartridges and the printer with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Confirm that you're using genuine HP cartridges, as the printer may not recognize third-party cartridges properly.

Check for Paper Jams: Sometimes, the printer might face issues if there are any paper jams. Check inside the printer and remove any paper that might be stuck.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

W T F is this little box for? Updating driver for Officejet Pro 8620

Hi

Why isn’t MacOS sequoia 15.4.1 not on the SW list above? Is HP so far behind?

I arrived here trying to fix the

  • Printhead Appears to be Missing or Damaged

error. Printer is 10? years old, <10 pages per month, home use, 1st time seeing this error.

I’ve done a hard reset, reseated the cartridges, turned on/off and still get the message. Got a link from the Community, Page not found. Trying to update the driver..

I first saw this little box yesterday on another website. No instructions or guidance whatsoever as to what to do with it. Any input to it seems doomed to failureScreenshot 2025-05-04 at 15.55.41.png.

It cropped up again today, with the same problem.

Who designs this stuff, do they use their brains?

TIA

Hi I am trying to locate a replacement white foam lid backing for my 8710 office pro printer. My grandson drew on it with a permanent  marker. This is the white panel on the inside of the lid that closed onto the glass scanner plate. Does anyone know where I could buy one. I looked everywhere. Thanks much.

Lots of problems with all HP printers

Dear HP supporters,

why do the printers always fail without proper error messages? It should be possible to send the document to the printer and show a status bar for that and then when the document is printing also show a status bar or a percentage when you go the the printer queue. When an error occurs the computer should show an error message. Also, it should be possible to cancel the print job at any time, which is not possible.

Instead there is are always the usual problems with HP printers:

- print job doesn't appear in the queue

- job shows printing but never gets ready

- it shows "unknown status"

- old, unsuccessful print jobs can't be deleted.

We could go through each of these problems together and discuss them in detail but my request would be that you sit together in the company and test these printers and write down all the usual problems and then to solve them. You could also learn from the Chinese people, my 3D printer works much more reliable and if there is a problem, a proper error message is displayed and I can choose to cancel the job. I can also offer to work in your company for some time until these problems are solved. I am a programmer.

My printer is HP Deskjet 2540, but the exact number doesn't matter. They all have these problems.

Also, everbody has these problems.

Please let me know if you want to take action and if I can help. Of course we would need to talk about salary.

Best regards,

Mathias

@Mit_8, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Deskjet 1510 Printer: Output Tray Closed Error!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are receiving an error message indicating that the output tray is closed on your HP Deskjet 1510 series printer, but the tray is actually open, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check and Re-seat the Output Tray:

  • Remove the output tray completely and then gently reinsert it. Ensure it is fully extended and properly aligned with the printer's body.

Inspect for Obstructions:

  • Look inside the printer and around the output tray area for any paper scraps, debris, or objects that might be blocking the tray sensor. Clear any obstructions found.

Update the Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support Website and check for any available firmware updates for your HP Deskjet 1510 series printer. Updating the firmware can fix bugs that might cause such errors.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and power it on. This can reset any intermittent issues affecting the printer's sensors.

Check the Output Tray Sensor:

  • Make sure the mechanism that senses the tray's position is not damaged or stuck. Consult the printer's manual for the exact location of the sensor, and clean it if accessible.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Printer stays in sleep mode, won’t print

My HP DeskJet 4100e won’t wake from sleep mode to print.  Unplugging and reconnecting power is the only way I’ve found to complete the print process.

I am receiving an error code of 0XB03687E4 on my HP Officejet 4635

First, my HP Officejet 4635 printer wouldn't print any print jobs until I went in and cleared out all print jobs in Queue. Then it worked for a couple of days and then all of a sudden the printer wouldn't even turn on. I unplugged it and plugged into a different outlet and then it worked for 2 days, and now I have  error code of 0XB03687E4.

Hi @medicalassistan

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2640 is stuck in sleep mode and not waking up properly for print jobs, which is also affecting its Wi-Fi connection. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to fix this.

Steps to Fix Sleep Mode & Connectivity Issues:

Disable Sleep Mode (If Available)

  • Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
  • Navigate to Settings > Power Management and look for a sleep mode option.
  • If available, disable or extend the sleep timer.

Assign a Static IP Address

  • On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Wireless Settings > Print Network Configuration Page.
  • Note the IP address and enter it manually in your router settings.
  • This prevents the printer from disconnecting when idle.

Reset the Printer’s Network Connection

  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the light starts blinking.
  • Run HP Easy Start on your computer and reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi.

Update the firmware on an HP printer:

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.
  • Click on the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer:
    HP Printer Firmware Update Guide

Check Router Settings

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the 2.4GHz network (not 5GHz).
  • Disable AP Isolation in router settings, as it can block communication.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows Alternative)

  • If you have access to a Windows PC, run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose deeper issues.
  • It can sometimes resolve problems that macOS tools miss.

@Dad_Berlin, Thank you for your response.

Please try these steps,

  • To bypass the error, first install the ink cartridges by opening the front door of the printer.
  • Place the black ink cartridge, followed by the color cartridge, and then close the ink cartridge chamber door.
  • Notice that the printer screen displays error E0 with flashing lights.
  • To resolve this, open the front door again.
  • On the printer screen, press and hold the wireless button for three seconds, then release it.
  • Close the ink cartridge chamber door. After a few seconds, the error should disappear.
  • The printer will make some noise as it processes, and soon, there will be no more error lights blinking.
  • This means you have successfully bypassed the setup in cartridges and the printer is now ready for use.

I hope this helps!

The F0.02.05.10 error code on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3303 is typically related to firmware issues. Since you've already tried resetting the printer and restoring factory defaults, here are some additional steps that might help:

Steps to Fix the F0.02.05.10 Error:

Update the firmware on an HP printer:

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

    HP Printer Firmware Update Guide

Perform a Hard Reset Again

  • Unplug the printer from power and leave it disconnected for at least 5 minutes.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect the printer.

Check for Hardware Faults

  • If the error persists after a firmware update, it may indicate a hardware issue.
  • Contact HP support for further diagnostics.

Factory Reset via Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Access the printer’s EWS by typing its IP address into a web browser.
  • Navigate to General > Restore Default Settings > Restore.
