It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 printer. The "printer failure" and "initializing mode" errors can be tricky, but here are some steps to help resolve the problem:

Step 1: Perform a Semi-Full Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door and remove all cartridges.
  3. Close the door and press the Home button on the screen.
  4. Tap the area where the Back button would be four times to access the hidden support menu.
  5. Scroll down to the Reset Menu and select Semi-Full Reset.
  6. Wait for the printer to shut down, then turn it back on and follow the on-screen setup instructions.

Step 2: Clean the Printhead

  1. Remove the printhead from the printer:
    • Open the ink cartridge access door and lift the latch handle.
    • Carefully remove the printhead.
  2. Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead using a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  3. Reinstall the printhead and ensure it is seated properly.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit the Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support for your printer model.
  2. Download and install the latest firmware update.
  3. Restart the printer after the update.

Step 4: Check for Hardware Issues

  1. Run HP Diagnostics:
    • Turn off the printer and press Esc repeatedly during startup.
    • Select System Diagnostics and run the tests.
  2. If diagnostics indicate a hardware issue, contact HP Support for further assistance.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊

Re: Print jobs deleting after spooling - don't reach printer

One other clue as to what's happening - If i turn the printer off and send a job it sits in queue, and when I turn the printer on it disappears without the printer doing anything. The printer seems to activly reject jobs but doesn't put up any error message like it's some kind or permission issue. Is there any setting that can make a printer do that?

Hi @DSmith0123

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you've already gone through a lot of effort to resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, and I can understand how frustrating this must be. Since you've tried cleaning and even replacing the printhead, here are some additional steps to consider:

Step 1: Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Disconnect any USB or network cables.
  3. Wait for at least 2-3 minutes.
  4. Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors) and turn it back on.

Step 2: Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Download and install the latest firmware update. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
  2. Restart the printer after the update and check if the issue persists.

Step 3: Inspect the Printhead Assembly

  1. Ensure the printhead assembly is seated correctly in the carriage.
  2. Check for any obstructions or debris in the printhead slot.
  3. Verify that the electrical contacts on the printer and the printhead are clean and undamaged.

Step 4: Reset the Printer

  1. Access the hidden support menu:
    • Turn on the printer and press the Home button.
    • Tap the area where the Back button would be four times to access the menu.
  2. Select Reset Menu and perform a Semi-Full Reset.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.

Step 5: Test with Original HP Cartridges

  1. Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, as third-party cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
  2. Remove and reinstall the cartridges to ensure they are properly seated.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊

Hello. I'm getting an e3 error message on my brand new HP 7301 printer. None of the HP suggestions have enabled me to clear it. There was a paper jam, but I know that is resolved. Also, when I am able to print, there are two small creases at the top of each printed page. Help?

@Marty3791, thank you for your response

If you encounter the error code 049834E8 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer, it typically indicates a problem related to the printhead or ink cartridges. Here are specific steps to help resolve this issue:

Step 1: Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and wait for about 60 seconds.
  2. Turn the printer back on and see if the error persists.

Step 2: Check the Printhead and Ink Cartridges

The error code might be due to issues with the printhead or ink cartridges. Follow these steps to inspect and resolve any potential issues:

Remove and Reinsert the Ink Cartridges

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door.

Image: Remove the ink cartridge from its slot

  • Push in on the front of the ink cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you to remove it from its slot.
  • Reinsert the ink cartridge into its slot and ensure that it snaps into place properly.

Image: Insert the ink cartridge into its color-coded slot

  • Close the ink cartridge access door.

Replace the Printhead (If Necessary)

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door.

 Lifting the carriage latch handle

  • Lift the carriage latch handle to unlock the printhead.
  • Without removing the ink cartridges, grasp the sides of the printhead, and then lift the printhead and pull it toward you.

Removing the printhead

  • Place the printhead face-up on a sheet of paper.
  • Remove the new printhead and SETUP ink cartridges from the package, set the ink cartridges aside.

Removing the new printhead and ink cartridges from the package

  • Grasp the printhead on both sides with the electrical contacts facing the rear of the printer.
  • Carefully lower the carriage latch handle until it snaps into place.

Lower the latch handle on the carriage

  1. Close the ink cartridge access door, and allow the printer to complete its initialization process.
  • Additional Troubleshooting

If the error still persists, you should contact HP Support for further assistance or consider replacing your printhead if it's damaged or incompatible. Replacement printhead assemblies can be ordered from the HP Parts Store or through authorized service providers.

Hi @GrassieGrant

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Accidentally mixing ink colors can be tricky, but it’s manageable!

Here’s how you can address the issue with your HP Smart Tank 7002 All-in-One printer:

Step 1: Stop Using the Printer

  • Avoid printing until the issue is resolved to prevent the mixed ink from spreading further into the system.

Step 2: Drain the Mixed Ink

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Access the Ink Tank: Open the ink tank cover to access the affected tank.
  3. Remove the Mixed Ink: Use a syringe or ink extractor tool to carefully remove as much of the mixed ink as possible. Be cautious to avoid spilling.
  4. Dispose of the Ink Properly: Dispose of the extracted ink in accordance with local waste disposal regulations.

Step 3: Clean the Ink Tank

  1. Use a lint-free cloth or tissue to wipe the inside of the tank gently.
  2. If necessary, rinse the tank with distilled water to remove any residual ink. Allow it to dry completely before refilling.

Step 4: Refill with the Correct Ink

  1. Once the tank is clean and dry, refill it with the correct pink ink.
  2. Ensure you use the ink recommended for your printer model to avoid compatibility issues.

Step 5: Perform a Printhead Cleaning

  1. After refilling, turn the printer back on.
  2. Access the printer’s maintenance settings and run a printhead cleaning cycle to flush out any mixed ink from the system.

Step 6: Test the Printer

  • Print a test page to check if the colors are back to normal. You may need to run multiple cleaning cycles for optimal results.

@Bozena154, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PDF Printing Issues on HP Printers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your printer isn't printing PDF pages despite the diagnostic tests showing no issues, there are several potential reasons and solutions to consider:

Verify Printer Setup:

  • Ensure the printer is correctly connected and turned on.
  • Check that there are no error messages or alerts on the printer display.

Printer Software and Drivers:

  • Ensure that the printer drivers are correctly installed on your computer.
  • Consider reinstalling the printer software and drivers if necessary.

Direct USB Connection:

  • If you are using a direct USB connection, make sure the cable is properly connected and not damaged.
  • Note that USB connections may have limitations in sharing printer information

Print Settings and Configuration:

  • Check printer settings to ensure it is configured correctly for PDF printing. Utilize tools within the printer control panel to perform necessary checks and adjustments

Print-Quality Troubleshooting:

  • Use the internal print-quality test pages to diagnose and resolve print-quality problems

PDF File:

  • Ensure that the PDF file is not corrupted. You can try printing a different PDF file to rule out issues with the specific document.
  • Check if the PDF file adheres to size and resolution limits. Long PDF files may exceed limitations set by the printing tool (such as 1.3m length at 600 dpi or 2.7m length at 300 dpi)

Printer Restart:

  • Try restarting the printer. Turn it off, wait for 10 seconds, and turn it back on

Hope this helps!

HP 5255 OfficeJet Printer frozen at turn on

Re: Printer error

$

Hi @Mike24724

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 typically requires all color cartridges to be installed, even if you're only printing in black. This is because the printer uses small amounts of color ink for maintenance tasks, such as cleaning the printheads, to prevent clogging.

Steps to Print Using Only Black Ink

Enable Grayscale Printing:

  • Open the document you want to print.
  • Select Print from the File menu.
  • Choose your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 from the list of printers.
  • Click on Printer Properties, Preferences, or Advanced Settings (this may vary depending on your software).
  • Under Color Options, select Print in Grayscale or Black Ink Only.
  • Click OK and print.

Check Printer Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Preferences.
  • Look for an option like Use Black Ink Only or Grayscale Printing and enable it.

Override Low Ink Warnings (if necessary):

  • If the printer prompts you to replace empty color cartridges, you may need to install non-empty cartridges, even if you don't intend to use them.

Unfortunately, some HP printers are designed to require all cartridges to be installed and functional, even when printing in black only. If this is the case with your printer, you may need to keep all cartridges installed to continue printing.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊
