I tried all the suggestions up to the firmware update. I downloaded the file and search the printer. It pops up but is grayed out and not selectable to update.

I even did the factory reset to no avail. The printer refuses to accept the new cartridge.

@Mariette3,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy 4520 printer is having trouble processing direct print jobs from your computer, except when they are first converted to a PDF. Since HP Smart can print PDFs but not other formats, this suggests an issue with the print driver or spooler. Try these steps to fix it:

1. Set the Correct Printer as Default

Go to Control PanelDevices and Printers.

Right-click your HP Envy 4520 and select Set as Default Printer.

Try printing again.

2. Reinstall the HP Printer Driver

Since HP Smart is working but regular printing is not, there might be a driver issue.

Uninstall Old Drivers:

Open Control PanelPrograms & Features.

Uninstall all HP printer software.

Open Device Manager, find the HP Envy 4520 under "Printers," right-click it, and select Uninstall device.

Restart your laptop.

Reinstall the Latest Driver:

Go to the HP Support Page.

Download and install the latest HP Envy 4520 full-feature driver.

Restart your computer and test printing.

3. Clear and Restart the Print Spooler

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.

Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Stop.

Open C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files.

Go back to Services, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.

Try printing again.

4. Change Printer Properties (RAW Format)

Open Control PanelDevices and Printers.

Right-click HP Envy 4520, select Printer Properties.

Go to the Advanced tab.

Under Driver, make sure HP Envy 4520 is selected.

Check Print directly to the printer.

Click Apply and OK.

5. Try a Different Print Format

If you're printing from Microsoft Word, try a different format (DOCX vs. RTF).

If it only prints PDFs, test printing a plain text file from Notepad.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

You must have accidently signed up for instant ink.  Access the portal and cancel the subscription or find out what why it thinks you have a subscription.

Instant ink portal is here.

I do not have an instant ink printer. My understanding is that if you run out of ink, or you cancel your subscription, you can use genuine Hewlett Packard cartridges either original or refilled. They must have an HP chip in the cartridge.
The below type is unlikely to work.

Note that this is a user to user forum and I am just the messenger of this bad news: Instant ink cartridges can only be used when the ink subscription is active.

New windows 11 causes my laserjet 1022 to flash an orange light

I'm in the process of switching to a new HP laptop running windows 11 pro.  I have a Laser Jet 1022 that works just fine when plugged into my old HP laptop running windows 10.  When I attempt to print to this printer from my new Laptop, the orange light flashes and it will not print until I press the diamond button on the printer.  It then prints one page, then begins flashing orange again until I press the same button again to print page 2.  I've tried downloading the printing tool from HP's website and nothing seems to correct the situation.  When I hook the printer to the old laptop, it immediately works just fine.  I can't seem to find an actual driver.  Is there a solution to this issue?

Hi @BriBri62

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 appears to have no power but the blue Wi-Fi light is still on, this likely points to an issue with the printer's internal power components or control panel.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

1. Hard Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to allow any residual power to drain.
  • Plug it back into a direct wall outlet (avoid using power strips or surge protectors) and turn the printer on. Check if the control panel lights up.

2. Confirm Power Connection

  • Inspect the Power Cable:
    • Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the printer and the wall outlet.
    • If possible, test the printer with a different compatible power cord to rule out cable issues.
  • Wall Outlet Test:
    • Confirm that the wall outlet is functional by plugging in another device.

3. Check for a Display Issue

  • If only the control panel is unresponsive but the blue Wi-Fi light is on, the display itself might be malfunctioning. Try printing from another device (via Wi-Fi) to confirm if the printer responds.

4. Reset the Printer Firmware

  • Disconnect the printer from Wi-Fi by holding the Wireless button until it turns off.
  • Reconnect the printer to your network using the WPS method or via the HP Smart App.
  • Check for any available firmware updates via the HP Smart App or the HP Support website.

5. Inspect for Electrical or Hardware Issues

  • Overheating or Power Surges:
    • Recent power surges or overheating may have affected the power board. Allow the printer to cool for a while and then try powering it on again.
  • Internal Component Failure:
    • If the above steps fail, the issue could be with the printer's internal power supply unit or motherboard, which may require servicing.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi @AK0325, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
We understand that you are facing Printer failure issue with your printer.

Please follow these steps,

Check for obstructions in the carriage path

Clear obstructions from the carriage area inside the printer.

1. With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

2. Open the door to access the carriage inside of the printer.

3. Look in the carriage path for debris such as crumpled paper or dislodged labels, and then remove any that you find.

Checking the carriage path

4. Use your hand to move the carriage to each side, making sure it moves freely. If the carriage is stalled or docked to one side of the printer and you cannot move it, continue with these steps.

Moving the carriage

5. Close the carriage access door.

6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then turn the printer on.

Reset the printer

1. Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

3. Wait 60 seconds.

4. Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.

5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

If your HP OfficeJet 3830 is showing "Attention Required" after running out of paper, try these troubleshooting steps:

Check for Paper Issues

  1. Remove the paper from the tray and reload it properly.
  2. Ensure the paper is aligned correctly and not overloaded.
  3. Look inside for any paper jams, and remove any stuck paper.
  4. Close the paper tray securely.

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Clear the Print Queue

  1. Press Win + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
  2. Right-click your HP OfficeJet 3830 and select See what's printing.
  3. Click Printer> Cancel All Documents.
  4. Try printing again.

Restart the Print Spooler

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down to Print Spooler.
  3. Right-click and select Restart.
  4. Try printing again.

Check for Printer Errors

  1. On the printer screen, look for any error messages.
  2. If prompted, press OK or Resume.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  2. Expand Printers, right-click HP OfficeJet 3830, and select Uninstall device.
  3. Restart your PC.
  4. Download and install the latest driver from HP's website.

Try Printing from Another App

Try printing from a different app (e.g., Notepad, Word) to see if it's an app-specific issue.

Let me know if the issue persists!

I hope this helps.

@Bryant_Printer, Welcome to HP Support Community.👋

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It looks like your OfficeJet 8015e has decided to go into full rebellion mode⚔️—ignoring the power button and flashing an error code like a stubborn toddler refusing to nap😴. No worries, though! Let’s bring it back to its senses.

Step 1: The Forced Reset (Hard Reboot)

Since your printer won’t power off the usual way, we’ll need to pull the plug—literally.

Unplug the power cord from the printer while it’s still on.

Unplug it from the wall socket (don’t just unplug from the printer).

Wait at least 60 seconds—give it a moment to breathe.

Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds (while unplugged) to drain any leftover charge.

Plug the power cable back directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or power strips).

Power it back on and check if the error persists.

Step 2: Check for Jammed Brains (Firmware Glitch Fix)

If the error still appears, the printer’s firmware might be stuck in a loop.

Try updating the firmware through the HP Smart app or by visiting HP’s official website.

Step 3: Enter the Secret Safe Mode (Semi-Full Reset)

If the stubborn error refuses to budge, we might need a deeper reset:

Unplug the printer again.

Press and hold the Power button and the Wi-Fi button (or Cancel button) while plugging it back in.

If you see a reset menu, follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 4: The Last Resort – NVRAM Reset (Factory Reset)

If all else fails, we might need to restore the printer to factory settings. This wipes everything, including settings and network connections, so try this only if the printer remains unresponsive.

Access Support Mode: Press and hold Back button (⤺) + OK button while powering on the printer.

Navigate to Reset Menu > Semi-Full Reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day. 😇

Hi @TunemanTim

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your printer isn’t working and you're using Instant Ink cartridges without an active subscription, this could be why it's not printing—Instant Ink cartridges are typically linked to an active subscription.

If you cancel your Instant Ink service, you can print with Instant Ink cartridges until the end of the billing cycle.

At the end of the billing cycle, you receive your final bill and the Instant Ink cartridges stop working and should be returned to HP.

Please install store-bought HP original ink cartridge.

Subscription cartridges or generic (non-hp) cartridges will not function in your printer now that the service is cancelled

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

@Lackaa, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Smart Tank 7300 printer

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

You’ve already done a great job troubleshooting by updating the drivers and restarting the printer!

Since the copy buttons briefly light up at startup but remain off afterward, let’s try a few more steps to get them working:

Check for Firmware Updates– Even if you’ve updated the drivers, the printer's firmware might need an update. You can check this using the HP Smart App or by visiting HP firmware update page.

Perform a Power Reset

Unplug the printer from the power source.

Wait about 5 minutes before plugging it back in.

Turn it on and see if the buttons light up.

Try a Copy Function Test– Even though the buttons aren’t lit, press the Black Copy or Color Copy button and see if the printer responds. Sometimes, the buttons may not be lit but still functional.

Factory Reset– If the issue persists, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings. To do this:

On the printer's touchscreen, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore.

Select Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, let me know, and we can explore further options, including warranty support if needed. 😊

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@SMDoughty,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error code B801FC66 on the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 typically indicates a firmware-related issue.Kindly follow the below steps:

Power Reset:

Unplug the printer from power.

Wait 2-3 minutes to allow any residual charge to drain.

Plug it back in and check if the error persists.

Check for Firmware Updates:

If the printer starts without the error initially, try updating the firmware via HP Smart or HP Support

If the error prevents normal operation, try updating via USB by downloading the firmware to a PC and connecting it to the printer.

Check for Hardware Issues:

Remove and reinsert ink cartridges.

Remove and check the paper tray and duplexer for any jams or obstructions.

If using an Ethernet cable, try disconnecting it and running the printer without a network connection.

Factory Reset:
If the printer responds long enough before the error appears:

Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.

If the error appears before you can do this, a firmware recovery may be needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Jay1543, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 2700 series printer has a flashing light near the color icons, it usually indicates an issue with the tri-color ink cartridge. Here are some possible reasons and solutions:

Possible Causes & Fixes

Low or Empty Ink Cartridge

  • Open the front cover and check the ink levels.
  • If low, try replacing the tri-color cartridge with a new one.

Cartridge Not Installed Properly

  • Remove the cartridge and reinstall it firmly in its slot.

Dirty or Clogged Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the tri-color cartridge.
  • Gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
  • Let it dry and reinstall it.

Cartridge Compatibility Issue

  • Ensure you're using a genuine HP 305, 305XL, 67, or 67XL ink cartridge (depending on your region).
  • If using refilled or third-party cartridges, try an original HP cartridge to see if the issue persists.

Firmware or Software Issue

  • Restart the printer by unplugging it for 2 minutes and plugging it back in.
  • Ensure the HP Smart App is up to date.
  • Try printing a test page to check if the issue is resolved.

Ink Cartridge Failure

  • If the issue continues after troubleshooting, the cartridge may be faulty. Try replacing it.
