HP Deskjet 2710e Won't print Balck Ink on Windows

Hi,

I am installing a HP Deskjet 2710e for a relative on a WIndows laptop. I have downloaded the HP Smart app from the Windows Store as directed and set the printer up (wirelessly) as per the instructions. As far as I know, everything installed fine but the printer won't print in black ink, either not printing in black at all or have very slight black markings on the page.

However, printing the same document from a mobile phone, also set up using the HP Smart app, will print the document complete with perfect black printing. just fine.

I've tried reinstalling the windows app, drivers from your website and I've upgraded the firmware to the latest version, all to no avail.

In summary, documents from a mobile phone = absolutely fine, documents from Windows laptop = no black ink.

Windows 11 23h2, app downloaded from windows store.

Please help!

Hi @rotorhead2,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.

The behavior you're experiencing suggests that the default printer on your laptop is set to "Microsoft Print to PDF" or a similar virtual printer instead of your HP printer. Here's how to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Verify the Default Printer

  1. Open Settings:
    • Press Win + I to open the Windows Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Printers:
    • Go to Devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. Set Default Printer:
    • Find your HP printer in the list (e.g., "HP ENVY 6032e" or any other model).
    • Click on your printer and then click Manage.
    • Select Set as default.

Step 2: Check Printer Status

  1. Ensure the Printer is Online:
    • In the Printers & scanners menu, click on your HP printer and check if it says "Ready". If not:
      • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the same network as the laptop.
      • Restart the printer and try again.

Step 3: Test Printing

  1. Open a document or webpage.
  2. Press Ctrl + P or select the Print option.
  3. Ensure your HP printer is selected in the Printer dropdown.
  4. Click Print.

Step 4: Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and resolve any remaining issues.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/help/printscandoctor

Step 6: Test Printing from Other Applications

Try printing from another application (e.g., Word, Notepad) to confirm that the issue isn't limited to a specific program.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Anns9,

Happy to hear that the error on the printer cleared on its own.

Since you have an issue with printing in black even after replacing the ink cartridges.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

Hi @Edmolina57

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet 3201dw printer is printing only in black and not producing color prints. This can happen for several reasons, ranging from low toner levels to incorrect printer settings. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

1. Check Toner Levels

  • The most common reason for a color printer printing only in black is low or empty color toner cartridges.
  • On your printer’s control panel, you can check the toner levels or print a toner status report to see if the color cartridges are low or empty.
  • You can also check the toner levels through the HP Smart app or by accessing the printer's web interface using its IP address.
  • If any color cartridges are empty or very low, replacing them should resolve the issue.

2. Check for Toner Cartridge Issues

  • Reinstall the Toner Cartridges: Sometimes, a toner cartridge can become misaligned or improperly installed, causing the printer to default to black printing. Remove and reinsert the color toner cartridges to ensure they are seated properly.
  • Check for Blockages: Make sure the toner cartridges are not clogged or blocked by any paper remnants or debris inside the printer.

3. Ensure Color Printing is Enabled in the Printer Settings

  • Go to the Print Settings on your computer and ensure that color printing is enabled.
  • On Windows:
    1. Open the document or photo you want to print.
    2. Select File> Print.
    3. Choose the HP Color LaserJet 3201dw as your printer.
    4. Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.
    5. Check that the option for Color is selected (not grayscale or black & white).
  • On macOS:
    1. Open the document you want to print.
    2. Click on File> Print.
    3. Select the HP Color LaserJet 3201dw.
    4. Click on Show Details and make sure Color is selected in the print settings.

4. Check for Printer Default Settings

  • If the printer is set to default to black and white or grayscale mode, it will ignore color even if there’s toner available.
  • Check the printer’s control panel for any settings that might be forcing it to print in black. This could be a setting like Black & White or Greyscale under the Print Quality options.

5. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Most HP printers have built-in diagnostics to check for issues with the printer. Run a printer self-test or diagnostic report directly from the printer’s menu (usually under Tools or Information on the control panel).
  • This can help identify any issues with the color toner cartridges or the print head.

6. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Sometimes, issues like this can be caused by outdated printer firmware. Check for available firmware updates for your printer on the HP Support website.
  • You can also update the firmware through the HP Smart app if you have it installed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Re: Carriage jam error in hp smart tank 790

$

Hi @Swasthi1

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A carriage jam error on your HP Smart Tank 790 can be caused by various issues, including paper or ink obstruction, misaligned components, or dirt inside the printer. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve the carriage jam error:

1. Power Off the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the Power button and unplug the power cable from the wall outlet. This will ensure no electrical components are running while you're troubleshooting.

2. Open the Printer

  • Open the printer's access panel or scanner lid (depending on your printer model) to reveal the carriage area where the ink cartridges are installed.
  • Wait a moment for the carriage to move to the center (if it doesn’t already).

3. Check for Obstructions

  • Inspect the carriage area thoroughly for any objects, debris, or paper scraps that could be blocking the movement of the carriage. Common culprits include:
    • Paper jams: Small pieces of paper or torn sheets can sometimes get stuck in the carriage path.
    • Foreign objects: Anything such as small paper clips or debris could cause the carriage to get stuck.
  • Gently remove any debris, being careful not to damage any parts of the printer.

4. Manually Move the Carriage

  • With the printer turned off, try to manually move the carriage left and right along its path. It should move smoothly; if it feels stuck or resistant, there may be something obstructing the carriage.
  • If it doesn't move, there might be a more serious issue, such as a misaligned carriage or something caught under it.

5. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Remove the ink cartridges from their slots and check them for any issues.
    • Make sure they’re seated properly and are not damaged.
    • Look for any ink clogs or ink buildup that could interfere with the movement of the carriage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @BrendaE1957

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with multiple issues related to your HP LaserJet MFP M227fdw, particularly with double-sided printing and ePrint errors. Let’s break it down and address each issue step by step:

1. Double-Sided (Duplex) Printing Issue

If you're trying to print double-sided (duplex) and it’s not working, there could be a couple of things happening:

a) Check Printer Settings

  • Print on Both Sides (Automatic): If your printer supports automatic duplex printing, this option should print both sides without you needing to manually flip the paper.
    1. Go to your print settings on your laptop.
    2. When you select Print, click on Printer Properties or Preferences.
    3. Look for an option like "Print on Both Sides" or "Duplex Printing" and ensure it’s set to "Long Edge" or "Short Edge" (depending on your preference).
  • Manually Turn the Paper: If you don’t have automatic duplex printing, this will print one side, then prompt you to flip the paper. However, some systems might not prompt you automatically—this is where things can get tricky. You might need to manually turn the paper once the first side is printed.

b) Ensure Duplexer is Installed

The HP LaserJet M227fdw has automatic duplexing (double-sided printing) capabilities, but this function must be enabled. Make sure the duplexer (the component that handles double-sided printing) is properly installed and that the paper trays are correctly loaded.

c) Print Manually

If the printer isn’t automatically prompting you, you can manually print double-sided:

  1. Print the odd-numbered pages first.
  2. After those pages finish printing, reinsert the paper into the tray according to the printer’s instructions for printing on the second side.
  3. Print the even-numbered pages by selecting only those in your print settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @kez34

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The OXB832CFD8 error code on your HP Envy 4527 printer typically indicates an issue with the printer's internal software, which might require a reset to resolve. This kind of error can also occur due to a jam, an issue with the print queue, or a communication problem between the printer and your computer.

Here are steps you can follow to try and fix the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset can often resolve many error codes by rebooting the printer and clearing temporary errors.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Leave it unplugged for about 30 seconds to a minute.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  5. Wait for the printer to fully power on and check if the error code disappears.

2. Clear the Print Queue

Sometimes the error code might be caused by a stalled print job in the queue.

  1. On your computer, go to the Devices and Printers section.
  2. Right-click on your HP Envy 4527 printer and select See what's printing.
  3. If there are any stuck print jobs, cancel them and clear the queue.
  4. Try printing again to see if the error is resolved.

3. Check for Paper Jams

The error code might also be related to a paper jam. Make sure the printer is free of any obstructions.

  1. Open the printer's front panel and check for any paper jams or debris.
  2. Remove any paper stuck in the printer, making sure the rollers and paper path are clear.
  3. Close the panel and try printing again.

4. Update Printer Firmware

An outdated firmware version can sometimes cause issues with error codes.

  1. Check for a firmware update for your printer through the HP Smart app or HP Support website.
  2. Follow the instructions to update the firmware if an update is available.

5. Reset Printer to Factory Settings

If the error persists, a factory reset might be needed. This will erase all custom settings, so use this option as a last resort.

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. On the printer’s control panel, press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for about 10 seconds.
  3. You should see a reset confirmation message on the screen.
  4. After the reset, follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Re: Printer says Ready Manual will not print

Hi @DebbieKurtz

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP LaserJet M1217 MFP printer is showing as Ready, but when you try to print, it says Manual and will not print. This typically means the printer is set to manual duplex or is expecting you to manually flip the paper for double-sided printing. Here's how you can address this issue:

1. Check Print Settings for Manual Duplex

Sometimes, printers default to manual duplex printing (printing on both sides manually), which requires the user to flip the paper after the first side is printed. If you don’t intend to print double-sided, you'll need to change the print settings.

  • Windows:
    1. Open the document you want to print.
    2. Select File> Print.
    3. Choose your HP LaserJet M1217 from the printer list.
    4. Click on Printer Properties or Preferences (this option may vary based on your software).
    5. Under the Finishing or Layout tab, make sure Manual Duplex is unchecked.
    6. If Manual Duplex is checked, uncheck it, then try printing again.
  • Mac:
    1. Open the document you want to print.
    2. Click File> Print.
    3. Select your printer from the printer list.
    4. Click on Show Details (if not already expanded).
    5. Look for any option related to duplex printing or manual and uncheck it.
    6. Try printing again.

2. Check the Printer’s Display for Errors

The HP M1217 might be expecting a specific paper size or format that is causing the "Manual" error.

  • Check the printer display panel for any error messages or prompts.
  • Ensure the paper size in the printer tray matches the size selected in the print settings (A4, Letter, etc.).

3. Reset the Printer

Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve minor glitches or errors:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the printer.
  3. Wait about 30 seconds to a minute.
  4. Plug the power cable back in and turn the printer back on.

4. Check the Printer's Paper Tray

  • Ensure the paper tray is loaded properly and the paper guides are snug against the paper.
  • Sometimes, if the paper isn’t loaded properly, the printer will go into manual mode, waiting for you to align the paper correctly.

5. Update Printer Drivers

Outdated drivers can sometimes cause printing issues:

  • Visit the HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers installed for the HP LaserJet M1217 MFP.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
