Hi @Nayyerm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer is displaying the message "Preparing to print" after you've installed new ink cartridges and then rejects them, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix the problem:

1. Remove and Reinstall Cartridges

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.Open the ink cartridge access door and carefully remove all the cartridges.Check the cartridges for any protective tape or packaging that might still be attached.Reinstall the cartridges one by one, making sure they are firmly seated in their respective slots.Close the ink cartridge access door.

2. Reset the Printer

  1. Turn on your printer and wait for it to fully initialize.Once the printer is ready, perform a power reset:Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still turned on.Wait for at least 60 seconds.Plug the power cord back into the printer.Try printing again to see if the issue is resolved.

3. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.Allow the contacts to dry completely.Reinstall the cartridges and close the ink cartridge access door.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer.Visit the HP Support website, enter your printer model, and download the latest firmware update Follow the instructions provided to install the firmware update on your printer.

5. Check for Ink Cartridge Issues

  1. Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges that are compatible with your printer model.Check the expiration date on the cartridges to ensure they are not expired. If you have another set of cartridges available, try installing them to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Re: HP Envy Printing Blank Lines

Hi @DM156498,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already taken several troubleshooting steps for your HP ENVY 4512 printer, but the issue persists. Since the problem occurs even when printing diagnostic pages directly from the printer, it's likely an issue with the hardware or the ink cartridges themselves.

Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Check for Firmware Updates: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve printing issues.

Examine the Ink Cartridges:

  • Even if you've reinstalled the cartridges, they could still be the source of the problem. Inspect the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks. Ensure the vent is not blocked.
  • If possible, try using a new set of ink cartridges to see if the problem persists.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Since running the cartridge cleaner tool didn’t help, manually clean the printhead. Here's how:
    1. Turn on the printer.
    2. Open the cartridge access door.
    3. Wait for the carriage to move to the center.
    4. Remove the cartridges.
    5. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently wipe the printhead. Avoid touching the copper contacts.
    6. Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Printhead Alignment:

  • Although you mentioned running the alignment tool, sometimes doing it manually can help.
    1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.
    2. On the printer's control panel, go to "Setup" > "Tools" > "Align Printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check the Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the paper type and print quality settings in the print driver match the paper loaded in the printer.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Sometimes a hard reset can help reset the internal memory of the printer.
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
    2. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Re: Hp all in one 7520 printer question?!

Hi @Slynn9092,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's possible that using non-genuine HP cartridges could be causing the issue with your HP Officejet 7520 printer. Non-genuine cartridges may not be recognized properly by the printer, leading to errors such as "printhead missing." Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Reinstall Genuine HP Cartridges: If you still have the genuine HP cartridges that were originally installed in the printer, try reinstalling them to see if the error persists. This will help determine if the issue is related to the non-genuine cartridges.

Clean Printhead Contacts: If you suspect that the printhead contacts may be dirty or obstructed, you can try cleaning them. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Open the printer's access door and locate the printhead. Gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water. Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling it.

Perform a Hard Reset: Sometimes, performing a hard reset can help resolve various printer errors. To perform a hard reset, turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord. Wait for at least 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @jeffersonm1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the ink carriage in your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer is stuck and won't move, there are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on again. Sometimes, a simple power cycle can reset the printer and resolve the issue.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Even if you've already checked for paper jams, it's worth doing it again. Open the printer cover and check for any bits of paper or debris that might be obstructing the ink carriage's movement. Use a flashlight to get a good look inside the printer.
  • Manually Move the Carriage: If the carriage is stuck, try gently moving it manually. Be very careful not to force it, as you could damage the printer further. If it won't budge, don't push it too hard.
  • Inspect for Obstructions: Sometimes, small objects or debris can get lodged in the printer mechanism, preventing the carriage from moving. Carefully inspect the printer's interior for any foreign objects and remove them if found.
  • PFG Gear Inspection: The PFG (Priming and Capping) gear is a crucial component of the printer mechanism. If you suspect it's the issue, you might need to disassemble the printer partially to access it. However, this should be done with caution and preferably by someone with experience in printer repair.

Hi @RayHasty ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

It seems like your printer is experiencing a communication issue or receiving unexpected print commands. The text you provided appears to be HTTP headers, specifically related to the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), which is commonly used for network printing.

Here's what each line generally means:

  1. Content-Length: 184: This header indicates the length of the content body that follows. The number "184" may vary depending on the actual content being sent.
  2. Content-Type: application/ipp: This specifies the type of content being sent, in this case, it's IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) data.
  3. Host: localhost: This header specifies the hostname or IP address of the target server. "localhost" typically refers to the local machine itself.

It seems like there might be a script or program sending these IPP requests to your printer. You may want to check your network for any devices or software that might be sending these print commands unintentionally. Additionally, ensure that your printer's network settings are configured correctly and that it's not being accessed by unauthorized devices.
