Clean dust and fibers from the paper tray rollers underneath the printer.

  1. Carefully lift the printer and set it on its side.

  2. While supporting the printer with one hand, pull the paper tray open to expose the paper rollers underneath the printer.

Welcome to HP support community.

Manually clean the area around the ink nozzles

  • Gather the following materials:

    • Dry foam-rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that does not come apart or leave fibers (coffee filters work well)

    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might contain contaminants that can damage the ink cartridges)

        caution:

Do not use platen cleaners or alcohol to clean the ink cartridge contacts. These can damage the ink cartridge or the printer.

  • Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  • Gently grasp the handles on either side of the printer, then raise the ink cartridge access door until it locks into place.

The carriage moves to the center of the printer.

Image: Opening the ink cartridge access door.

  • Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.

  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  • Disconnect the USB cable, if it is connected.

  • To release the ink cartridge, lift the lid on the ink cartridge slot, then gently push the lid back until it stops.

  • Pull up on the ink cartridge to remove it from the slot.

      caution:

Do not remove both ink cartridges at the same time. Remove and then clean each ink cartridge one at a time. Do not leave an ink cartridge outside the printer for more than 30 minutes.

    Image: Removing the ink cartridge.

    1. Lift the lid

    2. Gently push the lid back

    3. Pull up on the ink cartridge

  • Hold the ink cartridge by its sides.

Image: Hold the ink cartridge by its sides.

      caution:

Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Image: Do not touch the contacts or nozzles.

  • Lightly moisten a foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from it.

  • Clean the face and edges around the ink nozzle with the swab.

      caution:

Do not clean the ink nozzle plate.

Image: The ink nozzle and ink cartridge contacts.

    1. Nozzle plate - Do not clean

    2. Area surrounding ink nozzle - Do clean

    3. Ink cartridge contacts - Do not clean

  • Either let the ink cartridge sit for 10 minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.

  • Hold the ink cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, then slide the ink cartridge forward into the slot.

  • Close the lid on the ink cartridge slot to secure the ink cartridge into place.

    1.

      Image: Inserting the ink cartridges

      Insert the ink cartridge
    2. Close the lid

    3. The color ink cartridge is on the left, and the black ink cartridge is on the right

  • Repeat these steps to clean, then reinsert the other ink cartridge.

  • Close the ink cartridge access door.

  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  • Turn on the printer, if it does not turn on automatically.

  • Try to print again, and examine the page.

HP 8500 A910 Wireless Prints Slowly After PC Upgrade to WIN 10

$

Have been using the 8500 A910 for a long time.  Always a workhorse (even if it goes into cleaning cycle too frequently for my liking).  Never an issue with print speed.  Recently bought a brand new out-of-the-box laptop with WIN 10 PRO 64-bit.  Now printer is VERY slow to print.  Can wait up to 5 minutes for one page of text from MS WORD (even in draft mode, but it's even slower in normal mode.  I'm frankly afraid to try Best mode at this point.)  Also similarly slow from MS EXCEL or any PDF.  Problem gets far worse when printing a multi page document. Small documents from NOTEPAD seem to be ok if that helps.

I never print with a wired connection.

My home wifi network is rock solid.  The ONLY thing to change here is the OS on the laptop.

I did download the proper WIN10 driver from the support.HP web site.  Driver (per the HP web site) is dated Aug 17, 2014.

Laptop and printer rebooted several times.  No fix to the problem.

Printer firmware is at level LRP1FN1231AR.  Tried multiple times to update to LRP1FN1621BR but failed every time, even after multiple printer reboots per the instructions from the installation software.

Then tried to upgrade firmware to  LRP1FN1621DR, but the installer tagged the printer as "Not Applicable"

My conclusion:  something's off in the WIN 10 driver for this printer.  I know it's an older printer model, but it still works.  (Well, it did until I changed the laptop to a WIN 10 machine.)

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Does this happen while copying too?

When you do print in black, some amount of ink is taken from the color cartridges too. Do try replacing the color ink cartridge.

If the issue still persists, do try steps from here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-photosmart-5520-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5157533/document/c03955472

Hi

Thanks for your help but I am already doing this and have even paid for support as the printer is out of warranty. Sadly, nothing has yet worked and I am running out of time and patience.

Re: HP 8710 Not Printing Correctly

Strange partial printing.

I successfully finished doing my Federal Income Tax with TurboTax, including on-line filing. Upon completion, I downloaded my tax forms from TurboTax as a pdf file.

When I go to print the pdf file, the forms (1040, Schedule 3, etc.) print sharp and clear. BUT THE PRINTED PAGES HAVE NO NUMBERS IN THE FORM BOXES. When viewing the the pdf file, on my flat screen monitor, all of the numbers are in their proper boxes. A friend brought over his $49.00 Epson printer, and the forms printed sharp and clear WITH all of the numbers in their proper boxes.

What gives? Never heard of anything like this!

I saw your message and accessed the link. I know the process to print an envelope and have successfully done many in the past. However, now I feed the envelope and it spits back out, with no printing. Getting an error message something like “paper doesn’t match” or printer doesn’t recognize the paper. I am trying to print out a #10 envelope.

Re: Scan editable pdf (OCR) direct to a folder with OfficeJet Pro 9010 or 9020 ?

Hello,

first of all thank you to HP techSupport for their help.

Sort summary as I see it and concerning my HP OfficeJet Pro 9010:

- there are no differences between OfficeJet Pro 9010 and 9020 concerning OCR function

- documents can be scanned directly to folder on Server from the document feeder (ADF) or glass pad but not as editable documents (PDF/Doc) because the OCR-converter-app is not on the printer or on the server installed.

- documents can be scanned and sent to email as editablePDF or even WordDoc (I think that works just because the OCR-convertor runs under a HP server in this case ) --> this is also the only case when OCR function works for the printer!

Solution that it works for me:

   1. scan files to folder on server as  normal PDF. ( thank you HP)

   2. let the so called "synOCR" app convert the files into editable PDF directly on the NAS. (Thank you Synology)

HP Envy 5542 won’t print anything.

I’ve had the HP Envy 5542 for about a year. I’ve only used it once (a year ago), and it seemed to print fine. I’m now trying to use it again, and I can’t get it to print anything. I’ve even tried alignments and cleanings. Both ink cartridges are full with HP brand ink. I’ve tried printing different ways (iOS, Mac), but it prints a blank page no matter what.
