Deskjet 6840 Won't Print

Got printer from friend. Don't have install CD but is connected to laptop with USB cable. All indications are that it installed properly. Windows automatically installed driver and my computer shows the printer as being active and ready. Problem is that the power light won't stop blinking (no there is nothing waiting to print). It hasn't stopped blinking from the moment I cut it on, so perhaps something is stuck in the queue from the former owner? When I try to print, the document just sits in the queue (I don't get any sort of error message), so I just go back in and cancel the job. I've tried to find directions on the HP support site to reset factory defaults (hold "report" button and push "cancel" button 3 times, then let go of "report" button), but that didn't work. Do I HAVE to have the install CD? Am I missing some other CD? Help please!

If you print a solid black bar going from one long edge of the page to the other do you get a gradual fade of the bar?

My initial suspicion is that you have a hardware failure that's causing toner to not transfer from the cartridges to the intermediate transfer belt.

There's also a chance it could be a secondary transfer problem where the toner is being transferred from the belt to the paper.

I would start by looking at the secondary transfer roller, that roller should be on a part that folds down out of the way if you're going in to access a paper jam.

How to bypass alignment process on a psc 2110v?

When I start the printer it insists on doing an alignment. I'm just using the black cartridge ; the color cartridge is dry. Of course only the black portion of the alignment page prints. Perhaps because of that or because the scanner isn't working properly the printer doesn't recognize the alignment page. If I hit Cancel is just starts the alignment process again. In any case, I can't find a way to bypass the alignment process and move on to actually printing.

Is there a way to bypass the alignment process?

HP LaserJet Pro 500 color MFP m570dn Not Responding

My LaserJet Pro 500 color MFP m570dn is not communicating.

The touchscreen is currently unresponsive and I am not able to print, scan or fax any documents.  I have attempted the "troubleshoot" option through Windows and it only suggested that the Print Queue was not empty and after that was emptied, it could not find the problem.  I have attempted turning it off for a prolonged amout of time and turning it back on.  I have also attempted to unplug it and plug it back in after I have turned it off.  Sometimes when I turn it on it will say "printing document", however it does nothing.  When that screen is up, the orange triangle and green circle will blink.  Other times the home screen will remain up.  The white question mark is always on.

Have you tried checking using the embedded Web server? If not simply put the IP address of the printer in the URL bar of a browser.

If you cannot communicate with the embedded web server then you may have a formatter problem.

Whenever you find a technicians suggestions helpful you can thank them by giving them kudos by clicking the thumbs-up button under the post.

Check the driver and look for a paper type setting if it is set to auto change it to the proper type that you are printing.

I believe the spot sensor that the printer uses to detect the paper type and presence is being fooled by the stripe.

My 7310 prints from WORD fine, but when I print an image off a website, the HP fax screen pops up. I can shade the area to be printed and paste it into WORD and it will print. Any ideas as to how I can get it to not bring up the fax screen and print from the website?

I am unable to download the software to connect my laptop to my printer.  I am able to see the device in the add printer menu, but when I click add device it just shuts down the add printer window and settings.  I am also not sure if I have windows 10 32 or 64 bit I just know I have windows 10 and I can't print from my computer, because I can not download the device or instal the software for it.

Printer problems

I have an HP Officejet J4550 All-In-One printer which I love and have had no problems with.  All of a sudden, my printed pages do not have a common margin on the top of the paper.  On the left top portion the printing is very near the top of the page and on the right side it is much lower.  I looked for some answers on troubleshooting websites but have had no luck.

It would seem to me it is a problem with the paper feeder or rollers.  I have cleaned them and I still have the same problem.

This may not seem like a big problem but I have to print pages for my company and it does not look very professional.

I can install the printer either USB, Network, or Wireless and was able to print a test page and can print from computer via IE, Edge, Outlook Or MS Word, ONLY ONCE!!,

If I reboot or turn off computer, then try to print anything, the printer by all aspects looks NORMAL, and is ONLINE, but when I print, I get an error "Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistance?", and when I look for a fix, via the TROUBLESHOOTER, it can NOT find anything wrong...

What the H#@! is going on??? Is it a Windows 10 problem or and HP problem..

If I want anything printed, I need to UNINSTALL the drivers and all other software, then reboot, and re-install the software, then I have 1 chance to print, then I'm back to the Error....

Unplugging the back of the printer does not work.  I must get my printing done tonight in which to fax to an attorney.  He is counting on it.  Of all times for my printer to decide not to print!  I don't know what I am going to do!

Yes.  I have the Beeping issue too.  When I turn my Hewlett Packard M1212 nf MFP printer on, it picks up the paper, but when the paper is discharged, there is nothing on it.  Then I hear this loud awful beep!  The beep occurs when turning on the printer and turning off the printer.  What will solve this problem?  Why won't my printer print?

Hey ,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer is failing to print from your Windows 7 computer as there is an 'Error' being reported. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. To start troubleshooting we'll perform a standalone Copy to confirm that your printers hardware is in good working order. Once we have determined that this is not printer hardware related we'll be able to work towards a resolution. Please follow the steps below.

  • Step 1: Perform Test Copy:

1. Load paper in the input tray.

2. Lift the lid of the printer.

3. Load the original print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass.

4. Close the lid.

5. Press either Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color to start the copy.

(Source)

If you're able to Copy successfully, please proceed to the next step to correct this software/driver conflict on the computer.

  • Step 2: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool:

Now that we have isolated this 'Error' printing message to either a software or driver conflict between the printer and computer, we'll run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. Please click here to download the Print and Scan Doctor Tool. This Tool will run on your computer and 'fix printing' issues for you. Should any driver, software, or connection conflicts be found the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool will attempt to resolve those conflicts for you. Once the Tool has completed, please test printing to confirm that the issue has been resolved.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. If you feel that the steps I've provided resolved your printing issue please mark my post as a Solution so other users of the HP Support Forums can easily find these steps. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck! Smiley Happy

Hey there !

Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

I would be happy to provide some suggestions that may help resolve the flashing power button issue.  The print queue is stored in the computer.  If you are not using the same computer as the person who gave you the printer then it wouldn't be an old job in the queue causing the issue.  See if you can print a self test report by pressing and holding the power button. While holding the Power button, press the Cancel (X) button, and then release both buttons.  If the printer is able to print a self test report then the hardware is functioning correctly.

I suggest plugging the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord. This may sound silly but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting. If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors, have poor connection, paper feed issues and quality issues.

I also recommend checking for any jammed ripped paper in the printer.  I suggest following this document: Paper Jam

Let me know how it goes!
