@Peterpips, Thank you for your response.

@zoey7886 is away at the moment. I will do my best to assist you here.

And I’m sorry to hear you’re stuck in a loop with the setup process. Let’s walk through this step by step to get things back on track.

It sounds like the printer is not completing the setup because the alignment step isn't finishing properly. This is a known issue in some cases after a firmware-related reset or interruption. Here’s what you can try:

Complete Setup Using HP Smart App (Important)

Make sure you’re using the HP Smart app (available for Windows, macOS, iOS, or Android) to complete the entire setup. The QR code shown on the printer is meant to guide you to this app.

  • If you already have the HP Smart app installed, open it.
  • If not, you can download it from: https://www.hp.com/go/hpsmart
  • Add the printer again in the app, and follow the guided steps fully, including alignment.

If the printer screen reverts to the QR code during alignment, try this:

  • Cancel the alignment from the app (if possible), or restart the printer and repeat the process.
  • Make sure you have plain A4 or Letter paper in the tray.
  • Allow the printer to finish printing and scanning the alignment page—this step must complete to finish setup.

Once the setup is complete (or if the printer becomes accessible in HP Smart), you can check the firmware version like this:

Option 1: Through HP Smart App

  • Open HP Smart and select your printer.
  • Go to Printer Settings or Advanced Settings.
  • Navigate to Printer Information or About section—this will list the firmware version.

Option 2: From the Embedded Web Server (if accessible)

  • Find your printer’s IP address (shown on the printer or in HP Smart).
  • Open a web browser and enter the IP address in the address bar.
  • Navigate to Printer Information or Settings > Firmware.

I hope this helps!

If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!

Take care and have a great day.

Reseting the printer like you said to and updating the firmware worked for me.

Also from some reason, printing from chrome didn't work initially but when I tried to print from my Mac directly I was given the option to bring the printer back online, which kinda unblocked it then all my previous print jobs ran too,

@SP0831, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Output Tray Full" error you're experiencing on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 is typically caused by a malfunctioning sensor or a false trigger from debris, mechanical misalignment, or firmware bugs.

Please try these steps,
On the printer's touchscreen, tap the Settings icon (usually a gear or a circle with a serrated edge).

  1. Tap Settings again to access the Setup menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Scroll down to find Output Tray Sensor.
  4. Turn it off.
  5. Return to the Home screen and try printing again.

This should prevent the printer from falsely detecting a full output tray.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Re: Paper Too Long

Hi @Bruthabuz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we're very sorry for the inconvenience caused. We appreciate your continued use of the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 for your greeting card projects, and we understand how frustrating it must be to encounter these issues following a recent firmware update.

Based on the symptoms you've described — misaligned prints, paper jams, and the "Paper Too Long" error when using 8.5x11 cardstock — it’s possible that the firmware update may have reset or changed internal media handling defaults, especially for duplex (two-sided) printing.

1. Turn Off Two-Sided Printing

Your printer may now be trying to auto-duplex cardstock, which it doesn't support. To prevent that:

  • In your Print dialog box, select Printer Properties or Preferences.
  • Go to the Finishing or Layout tab.
  • Set Two-Sided Printing (Duplex) to Off or None.
  • Click OK, then print again.

2. Manually Set Paper Type and Size

Before printing:

  • On your printer’s control panel, go to Paper Handling > Paper Settings.
  • Set the paper Type to Cardstock or Heavyweight Plain Paper.
  • Set the Size to Letter (8.5 x 11) explicitly.

Then, in your printing software, match the same paper type and size.

3. Use Rear Feed Tray (If Available) or Manual Feed One Sheet at a Time

Cardstock is thicker and may feed more reliably when:

  • Only one sheet is in the input tray.
  • It's loaded in the center and supported firmly on the guides.

4. Check for a Driver Rollback

If the issue began only after a firmware update, consider rolling back the printer firmware:

Hi @sue1963,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is not responding and print jobs are getting stuck, even after a reboot, here are some steps to help you fix the issue:

1. Power Cycle Everything

  • Turn off your printercomputer, and Wi-Fi router.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • Turn them back on in this order: Router → Printer → Computer.

2. Clear the Print Queue

  • On your computer:
    • Open the HP Smart app (if installed).
    • Go to the printer status and cancel all pending print jobs.
    • If you don’t have HP Smart, you can also:
      • Search for “Printers & Scanners” in your system settings.
      • Select your printer > Open queue > Cancel all jobs.

3. Check Printer Connection

  • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • On the printer screen, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings to confirm.

4. Re-add the Printer

  • Remove and re-add the printer:
    • On Windows:
      • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners
      • Click your printer > Remove device
      • Click Add a printer or scanner
    • On Mac:
      • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
      • Select your printer > click the minus (-) to remove
      • Click the plus (+) to re-add it

5. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)

  • Download from HP’s official site
  • It can automatically detect and fix most issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

HP doesn't want to help or support older printers. There is a bug in the latest firmware and the new PrintOS app related to synchronizing substrates between the printer and the PrintOS cloud. All your problems will disappear once you restrict the printer's internet connectivity to the PrintOS servers from the printer menu.

Hi, I have a printing error of C4B9024 on my hp printer and it is currently showing a blue screen and flashing. I think it occurred after a paper jam and I'm not sure how to fix it. Apparently you fix it according to the type of printer you have. I have a HP envy inspire 7200 series printer and any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Now I have another problem. Just inserted the new 924 cartridges which seem to have got past the validating stage. But now I have got another warning this time saying I cannot use these cartrtidges until an account issue is resolved. It looks like the cancellation has still not gone through. I do not need or want Smart Ink. Please understand. I have just bought a new set of inks for £60.

Ink life duration really depends on what you are printing. I have seen users go through a set of cartridges in a couple of days because they were printing full color 8.5x11 pages. How much actual paper have you printed in the past 2 weeks?

Hi @Ray19691,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand that your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer is stuck on the initial startup (reload) screen and remains unresponsive even after attempting power resets and standard troubleshooting steps. I appreciate the efforts you’ve already made, and I’ll guide you through the next steps.

Step 1: Firmware Recovery (If Available)

Although not all HP ENVY models support direct firmware recovery via USB, you may attempt the following advanced step:

Prepare Firmware Recovery Tool (Requires a Computer)

  1. On a Windows PC, go to the HP Software and Drivers page.
  2. HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support
  3. Download the latest firmware update tool (if available).

Enter Recovery Mode on the Printer

  1. Turn the printer off (or unplug it).
  2. Hold the Cancel button + Wi-Fi button (or Back + Power on some models).
  3. Plug the power cord back in while still holding the buttons.
  4. Release the buttons after 5–10 seconds.

If successful, this will place the printer into a special mode to accept firmware flashing.

  1. Run the firmware update tool from your PC.

Note: Not all units will respond to this recovery mode depending on firmware version and condition.

Step 2: Check for Hardware Fault

If the screen remains frozen and unresponsive to any combination of reset or button inputs, the issue may be a hardware-level failure, such as:

  • Corrupted internal memory (NAND flash)
  • Faulty logic board
  • Damaged display panel connection

Unfortunately, these types of issues cannot be resolved through user-accessible resets and may require service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I changed my 2 cartridges yesterday and inserted again original cartridges from HP. But now, my printer does not recognize my cartridges any more, it shows cartridges empty and the orange light blinks.
Any suggestions please? I switched off the power already as well as waiting for 5 min. etc. but nothing helps.
Thank you in advance for a tip.
