Re: Constant alignment error

Hi @carinajs,

Thank you for the response:

Here's what you can try next:

Check for Protective Tapes on Ink Cartridges

Even though the cartridges are genuine and replaced, double check:

That no blue plastic protective film or orange tab is left on them.

Make sure the vent holes on the top of the cartridge are clear, gently poke them with a pin if blocked.

Manually Align Using HP Smart App

If alignment keeps failing from the control panel:

Open HP Smart App on PC or phone

Go to your printer → Printer Settings > Tools > Align Printhead

Sometimes the app does a better job than the panel itself

Low Ink Misread?

Even though it just started, try:

Removing and re-seating the black ink cartridge

Power cycle the printer

If the level still reads low, and you're on Instant Ink, let me know, and we can replace the cartridge.

I hope this helps.

I'm sorry. But since January the 20. there is no new Firmware Update for my printer.
And the problem is not fixed.
There are many friendly answers from hp, but no fix. And I'm nearly sure, the bug is inside the Printer, not in my infrastructure.

Hi @timothy696

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2820e is experiencing a critical error indicated by the flashing lights. Since you've already tried reinstalling the driver and reconnecting the printer, here are HP-specific steps to address the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds to allow the printer to reset.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the lights are still flashing.

2. Check for Paper or Cartridge Issues

  • Open the printer and inspect the paper path and cartridge area for any obstructions or debris.
  • Ensure the ink cartridges are properly seated and that there is no protective tape left on them.
  • Close all access doors securely.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • With the printer turned on, unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This can help clear any persistent error states.

4. Update Printer Firmware

5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Hi @stev693

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Envy 6000e printer is experiencing a print quality issue where pages come out blank despite the printer sounding like it's working. Here are HP-specific steps to troubleshoot and resolve this:

1. Check Ink Levels

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Navigate to the ink levels section to ensure the cartridges are not empty or dried out.

2. Inspect Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Check for any protective tape that might still be on the cartridges.
  • Ensure the cartridges are properly seated in their slots.

3. Clean the Printhead

  • Use the HP Smart app to perform a printhead cleaning:
    • Open the app and select your printer.
    • Go to Print Quality Tools and choose Clean Printhead.
    • Follow the prompts to complete the cleaning process.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This can help clear any temporary errors.

5. Update Printer Firmware

6. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to diagnose and fix print quality issues.
  • Follow the tool's prompts for additional troubleshooting.

7. Test with a Diagnostic Page

  • Load plain white paper into the tray.
  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report.
  • Review the printed page for any errors or misalignments.

Hi @carlerussell,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Oh no, sounds like your printer’s acting like it joined a secret ink cult 😅. I get how maddening that must feel when you just want to hit "print" and move on with your day, but instead, it feels like your printer is holding your documents hostage until you join HP Instant Ink.

Just a warm heads-up: HP would never force you into a subscription. Instant Ink is totally optional, like dessert after dinner, not the main course!

Tell me though, is your printer flashing weird messages? Not printing at all? Acting like it's the boss of you? Let’s figure this out together and show that printer who's really in charge 💪

We're all ears!

Re: All prints to my HP4155 printer refuses to print in any size other than 5x7

@Sta158, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm really sorry you're dealing with this frustrating experience — that definitely shouldn't be how your printer behaves, and I don’t blame you at all for feeling fed up.Let’s walk through a few things to help fix the issue with the HP DeskJet 4155 only printing in 5x7, and hopefully get it working how you'd expect. Here's a breakdown of what might be going wrong and how to fix it:

1. Google Docs Printing Defaults to 5x7

That sounds like a default paper size issue either in:

  • Google Docs print dialog
  • Your printer settings on your computer or mobile device
  • The HP Smart App or printer firmware

Fix:

  • In Google Docs, go to File > Page setup and set the default paper size to Letter (8.5 x 11"), then click “Set as default”.
  • When clicking that little yellow icon (it's part of the Chrome print preview or a browser extension), make sure the paper size is also set to Letter before clicking Print.

2. HP Smart App / Embedded Web Server (EWS) Paper Size

You're absolutely right — the EWS often doesn’t show a "Letter" option under some menus, only small/medium/large general types. But it doesn't control default print size directly unless you're using copy or scan functions.Fix:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel (touchscreen or button combo) > Setup > Preferences > Paper Size and set it to Letter.
  • Also check in the HP Smart app:
    • Open the app
    • Go to Print Settings (gear icon or Advanced settings)
    • Look under Default Print Settings and Paper/Media Size
    • Set Letter as the default there too.

3. Force Printer Driver to Use Letter

If you’re on Windows:

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on your HP 4155 > Printing Preferences.
  3. Go to Paper/Quality or Advanced.
  4. Set the Default Paper Size to Letter (8.5x11").
  5. Click Apply > OK.

If on Mac:

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners > HP 4155 > Options & Supplies > Driver.
  2. Make sure it’s using the right driver (not AirPrint, but "HP Smart Inkjet" or similar).
  3. Then, under Default print settings, change to Letter.

Bonus Tip: Reset HP Smart Settings

If the app continues being a problem:

  • Sign out and uninstall the HP Smart app.
  • Reinstall it fresh from the Microsoft Store or App Store.
  • Set the default paper size during the first setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @BIO85,

Thank you for the response.

Here's what you can try next:

Manually Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

On the printer’s touchscreen, go to:

Setup (gear icon) → Network Setup → Wireless Settings

Tap Wireless Setup Wizard

Find your Wi-Fi network and enter the password carefully

Wait for the blue light on the printer to turn solid, not blinking

If it fails:

Restart the router, wait 1–2 minutes

Try again, sometimes a second attempt works after power cycling

Reactivate Web Services (VERY IMPORTANT)

This step connects your printer back to the HP cloud

From the touchscreen:

Go to Setup → Web Services Setup

Choose Turn On Web Services

If it asks to update firmware, say YES

Wait till it prints an info sheet with the printer's claim code

Re-link Printer in HP Instant Ink Account

Your account may think it’s disconnected. Do this:

Go to: https://instantink.hpconnected.com

Sign in and check if your printer appears as "Not Connected" or "Offline"

Use the Claim Code from the info sheet to re-add the printer if needed

Refresh the page a few times until it shows "Ready to Print"

Remove/Reinsert Cartridges (After Cloud Sync)

Once the printer connects back to HP’s server:

Open the printer and remove both cartridges

Power off the printer for 30 seconds

Turn it on, reinsert cartridges gently but firmly

Wait for the printer to recognize them

I hope this helps.

@Glo1948, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When printing a half-fold card using the American Greeting program and encountering an issue where the inside greeting prints upside down, follow these steps to ensure proper orientation:

Preparing to Print

  1. Fold out the In tray and fold out the In tray extension.
  2. Slide out the paper length guide.
  3. Fan the edges of the greeting cards to separate them.
  4. Align the edges of the cards and place no more than 5 cards in the In tray.
  5. Push the cards forward until they stop.
  6. Slide the paper width guide firmly against the edge of the cards.
  7. Slide the paper length guide firmly against the edge of the cards.
  8. Lower the Output guide.

Configuring Printer Settings

  1. Open the Printer Properties dialog box.
  2. Select the following settings:
    • Paper Type: Appropriate paper type
    • Paper Size: Appropriate card size
  3. Under the Features tab, select the following:
    • Orientation: Ensure the appropriate orientation is set (either vertical or horizontal based on your printing needs).
    • Two-Sided Printing: Check if you want to use this feature.
  4. Select any other desired print settings and click OK.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have recently purchased and installed HP Envy Pro 6432 but cannot get it to print. It responds but produces blank pages. I have tried everything suggested here - checked ink cartridge levels (supplied with printer), ran diagnostics and printer head clean programmes, checked for updates (none), turned off and on again in the prescribed way but still no joy. What can I do ?
