Power supply may have gone bad.  There is a replacement procedure here.

Go to the below site and enter your serial number. Look for the part you need and make a note of the HP part number
https://partsurfer.hp.com/

Use the HP part number to search for a vendor. HP has an official parts store but be sure to look elsewhere.
Be sure to include Ali Express in your browser search.

These printers, in working condition, are being sold on eBay for 100 - 250 used to new.

if you have a voltmeter you can confirm that the power supply is bad.

Manually Check the Ink Carriage

Since your ink cartridges are stuck on one side, try:

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable.
  2. Try gently moving the ink carriage to the center.
    • If it is jammed, inspect for paper debris or obstructions.
  3. Firmly press down on the ink cartridges, then release them.
  4. Reconnect the printer and turn it back on.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

  1. Turn off the printer and remove all paper.
  2. Open the rear access door or paper path cover.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers.

You will have to adjust the contrast and save the setting.  On my LJ cm1415 there is no way to save it so I have to adject it every time it wakes up from sleep.

Possibly this will help

There is a way to bypass the setup cartridges but I do not know how for the 8100 series.

Looking at this post, it seems like @Irfan_06 knows how to do this.  Possibly Irfan will respond to this notification.

I do not know why the printer suddenly asked for setup cartridges.  Did you recently update the firmware?

Do some type of factory reset?   Was there a power surge?

Just guessing.

Hi @windows_mss,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding error message on your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The 0x6100004a error on the HP Officejet Pro 6978 typically indicates a paper feed mechanism jam or carriage stall.

Try these advanced fixes to resolve the issue:

Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, a hard reset can clear internal printer errors.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for at least 2-3 minutes to let the printer fully discharge.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds while the printer is unplugged.
  4. Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Manually Move the Ink Carriage

If the ink carriage is stuck, the printer won’t function properly.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  3. Gently move the ink carriage left and right to check for any obstruction.
  4. Remove any jammed paper, debris, or ink buildup.
  5. Close the access door and restart the printer.

Check for Paper Jam (Even if You Don’t See One)

Even a tiny piece of paper can trigger the error.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the paper tray and check for hidden paper bits.
  3. Open the rear access door and inspect for paper fragments.
  4. Gently rotate the rollers inside to remove any stuck paper.
  5. Plug the printer back in and restart.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

If the printer is trying to pull paper but failing, the rollers might be dirty.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the paper tray and locate the rubber rollers inside.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers.
  4. Let them dry for 10 minutes, then restart the printer.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

If the error is caused by a firmware issue, a factory reset may help.

  1. On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance.
  2. Select Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  3. The printer will restart—check if the error clears.

Update or Reinstall the Printer Firmware

If the issue started after a firmware update, try reinstalling the firmware.

  1. Go to HP’s official website.
  2. Enter OfficeJet Pro 6978, download the latest firmware update, and install it.
  3. Restart the printer and check if the error disappears.

Let me know if any of these worked for you! 😊

Hi @Kim2165,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Follow these troubleshooting steps:

Check if the Cartridge is Installed Properly

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the ink cartridge door.
  3. Remove the black ink cartridge and inspect it.
  4. Reinsert it firmly until it clicks into place.
  5. Close the cartridge door and turn the printer back on.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

If there’s dust or dried ink on the cartridge contacts, the printer might not detect it.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the black ink cartridge.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly dampened with distilled water.
  4. Gently clean the gold-colored contact points on the cartridge.
  5. Let it dry for 5-10 minutes, then reinsert the cartridge.

Verify the Cartridge is Genuine & Correct

  • Ensure you’re using an original HP 61 Black ink cartridge (or HP 61XL for high yield).
  • If using a third-party or refilled cartridge, the printer may not recognize it.

Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug it from the power source.
  3. Wait for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Firmware Updates

Sometimes, an outdated printer firmware causes ink detection issues.

  1. Go to HP’s official website.
  2. Enter your printer model (HP DeskJet 1512).
  3. Download and install the latest firmware update.

Try a Hard Reset

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Power button and Cancel (X) button for 15 seconds.
  3. The printer will restart—check if the light stops flashing.

Use a Different Cartridge (If Possible)

  • If you have another HP 61 Black cartridge, try installing it.
  • If the light stops flashing, your new cartridge might be defective.

Let me know if this helps! 😊

Hi @fern1191, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error message "The indicated cartridges aren't communicating correctly with the printer" on your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer suggests an issue with the ink cartridges or their connection to the printer. Here are the troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges compatible with your printer. The HP ENVY Photo 7855 typically uses HP 64 / HP 64XL (or HP 303 in some regions).
  • If you're enrolled in HP Instant Ink, make sure you are using the Instant Ink cartridges.

Reseat the Ink Cartridges

  1. Turn on the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  2. Wait until the printhead moves to the center.
  3. Remove the cartridges and check for protective tape (remove if present).
  4. Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their slots.
  5. Close the access door and check if the error persists.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridges.
  4. Let them dry for a few minutes, then reinstall them.
  5. Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and check if the error is resolved.

Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

Try a Different Cartridge (if available)

  • If you have a spare or replacement cartridge, install it to see if the issue is with the current cartridges.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware update from HP.
  • Download from HP Support page

The ink cartridges all appeared red, I called support and they told me to do a factory reset.
From then on, the printer starts, but it doesn't boot to the final screen, it always keeps asking me to put the setup ones, I was unable to use the printer for other purposes.

This could be a power supply problem.  I guessed and looked at your parts list here and saw there were two different power supplies. Only one of them is correct for your location.   You might test it with a voltmeter to see if it is putting out the required voltage or if it is just dead.

To get an exact parts list enter your serial number at the above site.

There is a replacement procedure here.

Hi @Marc196, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9012e is stuck in a firmware loop while validating the new cartridges. Try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for at least 2–3 minutes to allow the internal memory to reset.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  4. Plug the power cord directly into the wall outlet (not a surge protector) and reconnect it to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if it passes the validation process.

Remove and Reinsert the Ink Cartridges

  1. With the printer turned on, open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove all ink cartridges and close the door.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds, then reopen the door and firmly reinsert the cartridges.
  4. Close the door and see if the printer resumes normal operation.

Use Original HP Setup Cartridges

  • If this is the first-time setup, ensure you are using the original SETUP cartridges that came with the printer.
  • If the printer is already activated, use genuine HP cartridges.

Check for a Firmware Update (If the Printer Starts Working)

If you manage to get past the validation screen:

  1. Open HP Smart or go to the HP Support website to check for a firmware update.
  2. Install the latest firmware to prevent future cartridge validation issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

printer 2800 prints green instead of black

My 2800 prints green instead of black. Scan works fine B&W and Colored, but when I print a photo manually thru phone or laptop the image result is green or light green. Like, the black part affected and turns to green. How to fix it? Or what's the problem? My black ink is newly installed cartridge.

HP Envy 5032 stuck at initialization

$

I know this may have been asked before. My Envy 5032 (about 18 months -2 years old) is stuck showing 2 out of 6 dots when initializing. The progress bar below them goes all the way to the right and that's all. Power cycling makes no difference. I've had it powered off overnight and no change.

I can't get the ink cartridges out because they don't move and are under the right hand part of the housing.

I've downloaded the latest firmware and connected it via USB, but the update program doesn't list the printer.

I'm signed up to Instant Ink and was alerted by email to the fact that connection was lost on 20th Jan.

I feel there may have been an automatic firmware update but not sure. I have observed them before.

Is there a hard or manual reset I can perform? It's a shame it's out of warranty! Also disappointing as it's not really that old and not used that much.

Thanks.

John.

Hi @Kreszentia111, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding error code - 71.02.4A!
The error code 71.02.4A on HP printers typically indicates a cartridge issue.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve it:

Check for obstructions in the carriage path to make sure the carriage path is not blocked.

  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • If your printer has a battery, remove the battery.
  • Open the door to access the carriage inside of the printer.

Examples of carriage access doors

Opening an access door on top of the printer

Opening an access door on the front of the printer

  • Look in the carriage path for debris such as crumpled paper or dislodged labels, and then remove any that you find.

Example of a printer with debris in the carriage path

View inside a printer showing crumpled paper in the carriage path causing a carriage jam

  • If the carriage on your printer has a latch, make sure it is closed.
  • Use your hand to move the carriage to each side, making sure it moves freely. If the carriage is stalled or docked to one side of the printer and you cannot move it, continue with these steps.
  • Close the carriage access door.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then turn the printer on.

Reset the printer

  • An error might continue to display after the jam is cleared. To clear the error state, reset the printer, connecting the power cord directly to a wall outlet to make sure the power source is stable and prevent more carriage jams.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
