Hi @DamianBrand ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error code CE.96.20.0B indicates a Critical System Error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e printer. This typically occurs due to firmware corruption, hardware failure, or a communication error within the printer. Here are the steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 2–3 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the error clears.

2. Check for Firmware Updates

If the printer can still connect to a computer:

  • Visit the HP Support page.
  • Download the latest firmware for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e.
  • Install the firmware via the USB or Ethernet connection.

If the printer is unresponsive, skip this step.

3. Perform a Partial Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Press and hold the # and 3 buttons simultaneously while plugging the power cord back in.
  • Release the buttons when the printer powers on and begins resetting.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and check if the error clears.

4. Perform a Full Reset

If the partial reset doesn’t work, you can attempt a full reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Press and hold the # and 6 buttons while reconnecting the power cord.
  • Release the buttons once the printer powers on.
  • Complete the setup process.

⚠️Note: A full reset will return the printer to factory settings and may erase network settings and other configurations.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Remove and inspect all ink cartridges for any signs of damage or leakage.
  • Ensure no paper jams or obstructions are present.
  • Verify that all connections (e.g., Ethernet, USB) are secure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @EmBrace3 ,

Thank you for your reply

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error message you're experiencing with your HP ENVY 4527 indicates a serious issue with either the printer's ink system or internal components. You've already performed many common troubleshooting steps, which helps narrow down the issue. Here’s a comprehensive guide to resolve it:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Reseat Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove both cartridges and inspect them for damage, leaks, or residue.
  • Wipe the copper contacts gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the cartridges and ensure they "click" into place securely.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to the HP Smart app or HP's support website on your computer.
  • Check if there are firmware updates available for your printer.
  • Install updates if applicable.

4. Clean the Printhead

  • Remove the printhead (if your printer allows this; check your manual).
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean the nozzles and electrical contacts.
  • Allow it to dry completely before reinserting it into the printer.

5. Run the Printer Diagnostics Tool

  • On your Windows computer:
    • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's website.
    • Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to identify and resolve hardware issues.

6. Reset the Printer

  • If possible, reset the printer to factory settings:
    • Go to Setup > Tools > Restore Factory Defaults (menu names may vary).
    • Reconfigure the wireless connection after the reset.

7. Inspect the Printer Internally

  • Check for paper fragments, debris, or ink buildup inside the printer.
  • Inspect the cartridge area and around the rollers for any obstructions.

8. Bypass Faulty Ink Sensors

  • Disable the printer's ability to detect ink levels temporarily:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Use Without Ink Sensor (if available).

9. Test Alternate Cartridges

  • If you still get the error, try using another set of genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may trigger this error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with printing on your printer.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Are you able to make a copy on the printer standalone? (Place an original document on the scanner glass and make a copy to confirm hardware is working fine)

To understand the issue and help you, please share the details listed below:

- Exact model number/product number(SKU number) of your HP Product (Click herefor information on how to find the model number/product number).

- Error messages or Blinking lights (if any) on the unit. / - Is the error message on the printer control panel or the printer application?

- May I know which application are you using to print?

- When was the last time your printer was working fine?

- Were there any changes made to your printer recently?

- Are you enrolled in the instant ink service?

- May I know which devices are you using to print eg: Windows PC, Mac, or Smartphone (Android or iPhone)?

Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

My printer loses connection and is hardwired to my internet.

Laserjet 400 m451dn ethernet lost network connection

I have a Laserjet 400 m451dn that has been working perfectly since I set it up 3 months ago, connected via tplink powerline ethernet adapters. Then one day the wife said the printer is off line, I restarted everything and it seemed to resolve the issue but then it went off line a few days later.

Now after multiple restarts, plugging the printer directly into the router, factory restored settings, manually configured IP address, reset again back to dhcp, changed ethernet cables, tried an ethernet switch between the router and printer, nothing is working. The lights are on when the ethernet cable is plugged in and the router says 100 Mbps connected but the printer does not obtain a valid ip address and does not show up. If I set a manual ip address I can't ping it on the network. I'm guessing a hardware fault, maybe a failed network card in the printer but just not sure if there is anything left to try before admitting the printer is toast.

Any help much appreciated.
