Deskjet 890C

I have a very good Deskjet 890C I wanted to continue to use (from my old HP XP PC).

I installed a Parallel to USB cable between the printer and my HP Compaq running Windows 7. Turned the printer on and got the popup indicating it found the printer.

Went to the Control Panel and selected Add Printer. Then selected Deskjet 9800 (as was directed  on 02-21-2014 on this forum). The printer appeared to have been installed and shows as Ready.  But - - when I try to print a Test or any other page I get the Error-Printing notation.

My question is 'Have I selected the proper Port?'  It is currently set as LPT 1. The printer was OK on the old XP machinebut used the old standard Parallel cable.

I must be missing something simple and the Troubleshooter says everything looks OK.

Any suggestions on why the Deskjet 890C won't print? Help!
