"Carriage Jam" error message on Photosmart printer

I have a Photosmart C5250 printer.  Recently, when I turn it on, it gives me a "clear carriage jam" message and it won't do anything.  When I open the top and push "OK", there's a lot of movement of the rollers, but it never clears whatever the problem is.  So, it's unusable with this problem.

Is this fixable?  Could a repairman fix it, or should I just give up on it?
