Hi @motorcube

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is experiencing an ink system failure after replacing the cartridges and cleaning the printhead.

Since you've already tried restarting and reseating the printhead, let's go through some HP-specific troubleshooting steps.

Steps to Fix HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus Ink System Failure

1. Reseat the Printhead

  • Turn ON the printer and open the cartridge door.
  • Remove all ink cartridges.
  • Lift the printhead latch and carefully remove the entire printhead.
  • Wipe the electrical contacts on the back of the printhead using a soft, damp cloth.
  • Reseat the printhead and lock the latch firmly.
  • Reinstall the cartridges and restart the printer.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

3. Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle twice to clear any clogged nozzles.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

5. Try Genuine HP Cartridges

  • HP printers sometimes reject non-HP cartridges due to firmware restrictions.
  • If the issue persists, try installing genuine HP cartridges.
