The Context is using Softmakers' Textmaker. Using a custom printer shortcut with Paper source = Tray 2, Paper type = unspecified. The paper is well seated in tray 2, firmed up, squared, not overfull, etc. Below is the sequence I experience:
#1. Open document, click on print. Sometimes I double check which print shortcut is being used. The printer is attached to the computer via a USB line and not on wireless [so HP cannot zap my refill cartridge].
#2. Printer screen now reads: Load plain, letter (8.5x11) in Tray 2, or for 1-sided jobs, press Ok for available paper." [This is already problematic because I want to print one and two-sided sheets from sheet tray 2, and tray 1 is for envelopes only.]
#3. I pull out Tray 2 and then push it back in.
#4. I hold down the X button a bit, and I am back to Ready on the printer screen.
#5. I click on Print (in different ways...), and I get the error message in #2.
Note: If I do not briefly pull out and push back in Tray 2, but instead just hold down the X, I then get Ready again, but the next print request does nothing, with the screen just showing Ready anyway.
