@VAL8688, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP ENVY Pro 6458 is showing good ink levels and cleaning didn’t help, but nothing is printing on paper, here's what could be going on and how to troubleshoot it:
Likely Causes:
- Expired or dried-up ink cartridges– Even unused, ink can dry out over time if it's old or wasn't stored properly.
- Non-setup cartridges installed– HP printers require special “Setup” cartridges for initial configuration. If you’re using regular ones without completing the setup, it can cause this.
- Clogged nozzles or air bubbles– Especially common if the cartridges were shaken or stored incorrectly.
- Blocked or defective cartridges– Sometimes a cartridge can be faulty even if it shows ink.
- Wrong driver or corrupted print job– Rare, but it can cause blank pages.
Step-by-Step Fix:
1. Check if Setup Cartridges Were Used
If this printer was never initialized, it requires "HP Setup Cartridges" (labelled as such on the box). If you were given regular cartridges, the printer may appear to work, but won’t actually print.👉 Solution: You’ll either need the original setup cartridges or do a semi-reset and reach out to HP support to bypass this check (may require proof of ownership).
2. Try Printing a Diagnostic Page
From the printer's control panel:
- Tap the gear icon (Settings) → Tools → Print Quality Report or Printer Status Report.
- If that prints blank, it confirms the issue is hardware/ink related.
3. Remove and Reinsert Cartridges
- Take out both black and tri-color cartridges.
- Check the copper contacts—gently wipe with a lint-free cloth and reinstall.
- Make sure they click into place securely.
4. Try a Deep Cleaning (from software)
- Open the HP Smart app> your printer > Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools > Clean Printhead.
- Repeat this 2–3 times if the first doesn’t help.
5. Buy New Genuine HP Ink Cartridges (if above fails)
If the ink is old, used, or not setup cartridges, new HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges (depending on your region) may fix it. Make sure to get genuine HP cartridges.
6. Factory Reset the Printer (last resort)
If everything fails:
- Touch the gear icon > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Re-add it to HP Smart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
