Hey @1963Paul,
Thank you for your response
To disable cartridge protection on the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw, you can use either the printer's control panel or the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS). Below are the detailed steps for both methods:
Using the Printer Control Panel
Touch the Menu Icon
- From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Menu icon.
Open Settings and Supplies
- Tap the following menus:
- Settings
- Supplies
Disable Cartridge Protection
- Touch the button next to Cartridge Protection to disable the feature.
Using the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Access EWS
Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Menu icon, and then touch Info.
- Touch Connectivity to display the IP address or host name.
- Open a web browser, and in the address line, type the IP address or host name exactly as it displays on the printer control panel. Press the Enter key.
Navigate to Supplies and Enter PIN
From the left navigation pane, select Supplies. Enter the EWS PIN number when prompted. The default PIN can be found on a sticker inside the front door.
Disable Cartridge Protection
- On the Supplies page, select the Supply Settings tab.
- Under Cartridge Protection, click the button to disable the setting. The button turns black, and a message confirms that the setting has been changed.
Important Note
After enabling cartridge protection, all subsequent toner cartridges installed in the printer are automatically and permanently protected. To avoid protecting a new cartridge, disable the feature before installing the new cartridge. Turning the feature off does not turn off protection for cartridges that are currently installed.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
