The "Printer Failure" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911a) after installing a new blue (cyan) cartridge suggests an issue with the ink system. Here’s what you can try to resolve it:
Step 1: Check the Ink Cartridges
- Remove all ink cartridges from the printer.
- Inspect for any leaks, damage, or debris on the cartridge contacts. If the cyan cartridge is defective, replace it.
- Gently clean the electrical contacts (gold/copper) on the cartridges using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
- Reinstall the cartridges and ensure they are properly seated.
Step 2: Perform a Power Reset
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 2-3 minutes.
- While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
- Turn on the printer and check if the error is gone.
Step 3: Check the Printhead
- Remove all ink cartridges.
- Locate the printhead latch and lift it to remove the printhead.
- Check for any dried ink, dust, or obstructions.
- Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead using a damp lint-free cloth.
- Reinstall the printhead, secure the latch, and reinsert the ink cartridges.
Step 4: Update the Printer Firmware
If the printer starts working but still has intermittent errors, updating the firmware can help.
- Download and install the latest firmware from HP Support Website.
Step 5: Perform a Semi-Full Reset (If Necessary)
If the error persists, a semi-full reset can restore factory settings:
- On the printer control panel, press Back (↩) four times to open the Support Menu.
- Navigate to Reset Menu > Semi-Full Reset.
- Follow on-screen prompts. (This will erase settings, so reconfigure Wi-Fi if needed).
If the Problem Persists:
- Try a new set of genuine HP cartridges.
- If the issue remains, the printhead may need replacing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
