Hi @Densam
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 8710 is mistakenly detecting an issue with the ink system, even though you're using genuine HP cartridges. Here's a step-by-step guide to help troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Ensure Proper Installation of Cartridges
- Double-check the ink cartridges: Make sure that all the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated correctly. Even a slightly misaligned cartridge can cause error messages.
- Ensure the chips are clean: Although you mentioned cleaning the chips with a lint-free cloth, sometimes a bit of residue can cause issues. Try cleaning the chips again gently with a soft cloth dampened with a little water or rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining residue.
2. Power Reset (Hard Reset)
Sometimes a full power reset can clear errors that aren’t fixed by just unplugging the printer.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds (you already tried 60 seconds, but sometimes longer is better).
- While unplugged, press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on to see if the error clears.
3. Check for Firmware Updates
- Sometimes, printers can get erroneous error messages due to outdated firmware.
- Go to the HP website or use the HP Smart app on your computer to check for the latest firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet 8710. Install any available updates and restart the printer to see if the issue is resolved.
4. Reset the Printer’s Ink System
If the error persists, you can reset the printer's ink system:
- Open the printer’s ink cartridge door.
- Wait for the printer to recognize the ink cartridges.
- Close the door and turn off the printer.
- Unplug the printer from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in.
- Turn the printer back on to see if the issue resolves.
5. Remove and Reinstall the Cartridges
- Remove all cartridges from the printer and clean the contacts again with a soft, dry lint-free cloth.
- Make sure the cartridges are not leaking ink and that the chips are not damaged.
- Reinstall the cartridges properly, ensuring each one clicks into place.
- Power on the printer and see if the error message persists.
I hope this helps.
