Hi @fmt1911,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error 0xc19a0020 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer usually indicates a printhead failure or ink system problem. Try these steps to fix it.
Reset the Printer
- Turn on the printer.
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while it is still on.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall and reconnect it to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.
Check the Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge door and check if the cartridges are seated properly.
- Remove the cartridges and inspect them for leaks or damage.
- Wipe the cartridge contacts gently with a lint-free cloth and reinstall them.
Clean the Printhead
- Turn on the printer.
- Open the cartridge access door and remove all ink cartridges.
- Locate the printhead latch (if applicable) and lift it to remove the printhead.
- Wipe the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Let everything dry for 10 minutes, then reinstall the printhead and cartridges.
Update Firmware
- Go to HP Support and download the latest firmware for your printer.
- Install it and check if the error clears.
Try a Printhead Cleaning Cycle
- On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and test print.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
