I do not have an instant ink printer. My understanding is that if you run out of ink, or you cancel your subscription, you can use genuine Hewlett Packard cartridges either original or refilled. They must have an HP chip in the cartridge.
- Unplug printer from the wall outlet.
- If the power cord has a transformer (wall wart) unplug from the printer also.
- Press the power button 2-3 times to discharge residual electricity. Wait 60 second then plug back in.
General ink cartridge help
Here are a couple of other possibilities and I am just listing them:
- Instant ink cartridges can only be used when the ink subscription is active.
- The ink may have expired, check the expiration date. Some printer enforce an expiration date.
- Fake? To check if an HP ink cartridge is genuine, look for a security label on the cartridge, scan the QR code on the label with your phone, and then go to HP's website hp.com/go/ok to verify the serial number on the label; if the label appears tampered or the serial number doesn't validate, the cartridge is likely not genuine.
