Hi @Aoresteen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To bring your HP Deskjet 6988 printer back online, here are a few steps you can try.

Check Printer Connections and Network:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your network via Ethernet cable.
  • Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into both the printer and the router or switch.

Restart Printer and Router:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Power off your router or modem.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug in the router or modem and wait for it to fully restart.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it on.

Verify Network Settings:

  • Print a network configuration page from the printer to check its IP address and ensure it is on the same subnet as your computer and other devices.
  • Ensure that there are no IP conflicts or issues with DHCP settings.

Update Printer Firmware (if applicable):

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Sometimes reinstalling the printer drivers on your computer can help resolve offline issues. Visit the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your printer model, and reinstall them on your computer.

Reset Printer's Network Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings or setup menu.
  • Look for an option to reset network settings or restore default settings related to networking.
  • Follow the prompts to reset the network settings and then reconnect the printer to your network.

Check Firewall or Security Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or security software is not blocking the printer from connecting to the network.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (if available):

  • HP provides a tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Download and run this tool to check for any issues and follow its recommendations.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
