I'm basing my opinion on other HP inkjet printers I've worked on since I'm not specifically familiar with your model.
What it sounds like is that the printer is feeding the paper but not detecting that the paper actually went to the rollers and to the proper position to be fed into the print pat.
There should be a plastic finger that sticks up in the paper path an inch or sobehind those rollers that look white. In the older models I might get to that by taking out a clean out door on the back of the machine.
It is likely that the finger has been knocked out of position and as a result the printer is detecting a jam when there is not one.
