I'm running Win 7 with the latest Laserjet 4P/4MP PS driver. The printer is connected via the parallel port.
It is having problems printing Adobe PDF files. Sometimes it takes a long time to process a file, up to about 10 minutes per page and especially if there are images on the page, before finally printing out the page. Sometimes nothing gets printed out. Othertimes if there are graphics on the page, only blocks appear with no details.
- Could this be a printer firmware issue or a driver issue?
- Can the firmware of this printer even be upgraded and were firmware upgrades ever made available?
- Is the upgrade done via the PC connection or does the Formatter board have to be replaced?
Given that the printer is 20 years old, I was wondering if maybe newer PDF files are using a format that the printer or the driver can't handle.
My printer has the following specs:
- Formatter Number: S4601A00CTG
- RAM size: 22MB
- Firmware datecode = 19930527
- Installed personalities:
PCL (19930510)
POSTSCRIPT (19930521)
Thanks for any help....eladb
