The error occurs before the HP program is registered in my program list.
Also, the system image that I'm reloading has never had a printer connected.
I've verified that I'm using the correct HP software but I've downloaded and will
use fresh copies.
Before my next attempt I'm going to reload the system image once again
One question:
Should I leave the printer disconnected until prompted during the printer
installation, or does it need to be powered up and connected beforehand?
I do know that connecting the printer before starting the HP installation software
results in Windows 7 detecting and successfully installing it's own drivers.
