There a few things to consider to minimize color ink usage when printing black only:
- Make sure the media type is set properly. Select Plan Paper if printing on plain paper.
- Select "Print in grayscale" and "Black Ink Only" in the driver.
- Do not run unnecessary cleaning cycles. Cleaning cycles will use ink from black and all colors and are rarely needed.
- Leave the printer plugged into a live outlet. Turning off the power to the printer from an external switch (such as an outlet switch or power strip) will force the printer to run a more extensive startup servicing. This will use more ink.
- Depending on quality requirements print with Draft or Normal quality settings. Selecting Best mode will typically underprint with color.
