Re: Photosmart 7510 doesn't recognize presence of photo paper

Jarends,

Thanks for your response, and I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.  I just returned from  a week-long trip chaperoning a bunch of high-schoolers on a band/orchestra trip during their Spring Break.  Funny how the sympathy from other adults dries up when they find out we went to Hawaii....

Anyway, I tried the instructions that were in the document you linked, and all it did was show me that I must have some serious hardware issues with my printer.  When I tried to execute the steps to print from the Control Panel, I could not do so; I put a SD card with a bunch of photos on it into the SD slot, and an LED started flashing like the printer was accessing the data on the card, but I couldn't make the Control Panel respond to anything.  None of the icons I touched resulted in any action.  Even swiping sideways over the "Get More," "Facebook," DreamWorks," etc. icons did not make them move like they should.  The only touch area of the Control Panel that works is the upper right where the "Help" question mark is.  Touching that gets me the help menu, but I cannot scroll up or down through the subjects, nor select any of them.  I think my Control Panel is broke, which begs the question of what else is broke...

One curious thing that did happen, if it helps you identify a possible troubleshooting path, is that when I used an app on my computer to attempt a print to 4x6 paper, I still got the "Photo Tray empty" alert, but when I tried to acknowldege that alert to clear it, I got another alert to the effect that I had performed an improper shutdown, even though the printer was never power cycled.  Very interesting!

Any ideas, or should I give up and use this thing as a non-photo, regular ink jet printer, which it does just fine?
