@Polly75, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Smart Tank 5105!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If you are setting up your HP Smart Tank 5105 and encountering printhead errors indicated by the blinking printhead icons and exclamation mark, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Determine Which Printhead Caused the Error
Check the control panel of your printer:
- Blinking left printhead icon: Indicates a problem with the tri-color printhead.
- Blinking right printhead icon: Indicates a problem with the black printhead.
Check the Printheads
Ensure Proper Printhead Installation:
- Make sure the printheads are properly installed and correctly seated in their slots.
- Ensure the ink tanks are at least half-full and paper is loaded in the input tray.
- Verify that the protective tapes and plugs have been removed from the printheads.
Visually Inspect Printheads:
- Open the ink access door and wait for the carriage to stop.
- Check that the printhead cover is closed. If open, push down to close it.
- Press the blue button to open the printhead cover.
- On the problematic printhead, press down to release it and pull it out of the slot. Ensure no plugs or tapes are remaining.
- Reinsert the printhead into the slot until it snaps into place.
- Repeat for the other printhead if necessary.
- Close the printhead cover and ink access door.
Align the Printheads:
- If your printer has a touchscreen control panel, follow the prompts to print and align the printheads.
- If your printer does not have a touchscreen control panel, an "A" will blink on the control panel, and an Alignment Page will print automatically. Follow the instructions to align the printheads.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
