Hi @Ned36

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 8600 is stuck with a print job that won't clear, which can prevent the printer from functioning properly.

Here are some steps to resolve the issue:

Clear the Print Queue:

  • On your computer, open the Control Panel and go to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP OfficeJet 8600 and select See what's printing.
  • In the print queue window, click Printer in the top menu and select Cancel All Documents.
  • If the stubborn document still won't cancel, proceed to the next step.

Restart the Print Spooler Service:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Stop.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder (these are the stuck print jobs).
  • Go back to the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.

Perform a Hard Reset on the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for firmware updates for your printer. Updating the firmware can resolve software-related issues.

Test with a Standalone Copy:

  • Place a document on the scanner glass and try making a copy directly from the printer. If this works, the issue might be related to the print queue or drivers.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the printer drivers from your computer and download the latest version from the HP website. Reinstall the drivers and try printing again.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
