Hi @Cp50001

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Envy 7640 is requiring you to register or enroll in an HP Instant Ink before printing, but you’d like to use it without any plans or subscriptions.

You can absolutely use your HP printer without being enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program and get the printer functioning as a standalone device:

1. Ensure You’re Using Standard HP Ink Cartridges

If your printer currently has HP Instant Ink cartridges installed, those will only work if you're subscribed to the Instant Ink program.

Replace the Instant Ink cartridges with standard HP cartridges that you can purchase from a retailer.

These will work without requiring registration.

2. Bypass Registration During Setup

If the printer is asking for registration as part of its initial setup, you should still be able to decline it:

On your printer’s control panel, there should be an option to skip the Instant Ink registration or "Continue Without Plan."

If this option isn’t obvious, restart the setup process, and look carefully for any such bypass option during setup.

3. Reinstall the Printer as a Local Device

Remove the printer from your computer’s list of devices:

On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select "Remove device."

On macOS: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the “-” button to remove it.

Reinstall the printer using basic drivers from the HP Support website. Do not connect it to an HP account unless necessary.

4. Update the Firmware

HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

5. Disable Web Services

If the printer is still trying to enforce online registration, disable Web Services:

On your printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Web Services Settings > Remove Web Services.

This will disconnect the printer from any online HP services.

6. Perform a Factory Reset

If the printer insists on registration even after completing the above steps, try resetting it to factory settings:

On the control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Settings.

After resetting, set up the

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,
