My HP LaserJet MFP M140w (Serial Number: VND3G02539) was affected by the faulty firmware update, which has resulted in my original HP toner no longer being recognized. To make matters worse, older firmware cannot be reinstalled, effectively locking me out of using the printer as intended.
Most reports have focused on the LaserJet MFP M232-M237 models being affected, but I can confirm that the M140we is also impacted. After the firmware update, the product number was changed, and the country/region was inexplicably set to Ukraine. HP is also now erroneously capturing the model number as HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw in my account.
HP’s technical support was entirely unhelpful—their only recommendation was that I should buy a new HP printer. Instead, I have purchased a Brother HL-L2480DW, and my HP printer is headed for the trash (though I’m tempted to take a hammer to it first). I will never purchase an HP product ever again.
