Hi @annabean01, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A "Printer Failure" message usually indicates a hardware or firmware issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix it:
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait 2-3 minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Check for Paper Jams
- Open all access panels (input/output tray, ink/toner area).
- Remove any stuck paper or debris.
Reset the Printer (Hard Reset)
- With the printer turned on, unplug the power cable from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect everything.
Update the Printer Firmware
- Go to HP Support and check for the latest firmware updates.
- Install the update via HP Smart or the printer's built-in menu.
Check Ink/Toner and Printhead
- If applicable, remove and reinstall the ink/toner cartridges.
- For inkjet printers, clean the printhead (either manually or via the printer settings).
Reinstall the Printer Drivers
- Windows:
- Go to Device Manager→ Locate the printer → Right-click → Uninstall device.
- Restart the PC and reinstall the drivers from the HP website.
- Mac:
- Go to System Preferences→ Printers & Scanners→ Remove and re-add the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
