Hi @annabean01, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A "Printer Failure" message usually indicates a hardware or firmware issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix it:

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Open all access panels (input/output tray, ink/toner area).
  • Remove any stuck paper or debris.

Reset the Printer (Hard Reset)

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cable from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect everything.

Update the Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP Support and check for the latest firmware updates.
  • Install the update via HP Smart or the printer's built-in menu.

Check Ink/Toner and Printhead

  • If applicable, remove and reinstall the ink/toner cartridges.
  • For inkjet printers, clean the printhead (either manually or via the printer settings).

Reinstall the Printer Drivers

  • Windows:
    • Go to Device Manager→ Locate the printer → Right-click → Uninstall device.
    • Restart the PC and reinstall the drivers from the HP website.
  • Mac:
    • Go to System PreferencesPrinters & Scanners→ Remove and re-add the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
