Hi @HaroldMB, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw randomly turning off and now failing to restart could be due to several factors, including power issues, firmware bugs, or internal hardware faults. Try the following steps to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:
Check Power Source
- Ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip or surge protector.
- Try using a different wall outlet to rule out any power-related issues.
Perform a Hard Reset
Since your previous reset method worked temporarily, try a full power reset:
- Unplug the printer from the power source and disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables.
- Wait for 10-15 minutes to allow the internal components to discharge.
- Press and hold the Power button for 60 seconds.
- While still holding the Power button, plug the printer back into the power outlet.
- Release the Power button and see if the printer turns on.
Check for Power Supply Issues
- If the printer still doesn’t power on, the internal power supply unit (PSU) may be failing.
- Try using a different power cord (if available) to rule out a faulty cable.
Firmware Update (If Printer Starts)
If you manage to turn the printer on, immediately check for a firmware update:
- Download the latest firmware.
- Install it using HP Smart or HP Easy Firmware Upgrade Utility.
If none of the above steps work, the issue may be a failing power board or motherboard inside the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
