Hi @johnhemby, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a print queue issue on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 where documents are stuck in the queue and cannot be printed, although reports from the printer settings work fine.

Given the steps you've already taken, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

Clear the Print Spooler Manually

Sometimes the print spooler service can become corrupted and cause print jobs to get stuck.

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • In the list of services, find Print Spooler.
  • Right-click on Print Spooler and select Stop.
  • Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete any files in this folder (these are the stuck print jobs).
  • Return to the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.

Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

Since the printer works for reports but not documents sent from devices, there may be an issue with the connection.

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
  • Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network by following the on-screen instructions.

Update Printer Drivers

Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with printing.

  • Go to Device Manager> Printers, find your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, and right-click to select Update Driver.
  • Alternatively, go to HP's website, download the latest drivers, and install them.

Reinstall the Printer

  • Remove the printer from your devices by going to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the printer and click Remove device.
  • Re-add the printer, ensuring you select the correct model and connection type (Wi-Fi).

Check for Conflicting Software

Sometimes, third-party software (e.g., antivirus programs or firewall settings) can block communication with the printer. Try temporarily disabling or uninstalling any recently added software and check if that resolves the issue.

 Reset the Printer’s Firmware

If your printer's firmware is outdated, it can cause print queue issues. Make sure it’s updated by checking the printer's settings and updating from the HP Smart App or directly through the printer settings.

Check Network Stability

Ensure your Wi-Fi network is stable. A weak or fluctuating Wi-Fi signal could cause the printer to lose connection mid-job. If possible, try printing via an Ethernet cable to rule out Wi-Fi issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
