Hi @Luca19731, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The system initialization loop on your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw could be caused by firmware corruption, a hardware issue, or a failed component. Since you have already tried a hard reset, here are additional steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Power Reset with Extended Unplugging

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  • Disconnect all cables (USB, Ethernet, phone line).
  • Leave the printer unplugged for 10-15 minutes.
  • Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn it ON and check if the issue persists.

Check for Firmware Corruption

If the printer keeps looping during initialization, firmware corruption might be the cause.
Try a forced firmware recovery:

  • Download the latest firmware for your printer from HP support page: Click here
  • Turn off the printer.
  • Connect the printer via USB to a Windows PC.
  • Open the firmware update tool and start the update before turning on the printer.
  • Turn on the printer while the update is in progress (this might force a recovery).

Check for Paper Jams or Sensor Issues

Sometimes, a small paper fragment inside the printer can cause continuous initialization:

  • Open all doors and inspect for jams (use a flashlight).
  • Remove and reseat the toner cartridges.
  • Check the sensor flags (small plastic tabs near the paper path) to ensure they move freely.

Check Network & Fax Connections

If your printer is connected to a network (Ethernet or Fax line), try:

  • Disconnecting the Ethernet cable and booting up.
  • If connected to a phone line (Fax), unplug it and restart.

Service Mode Reset (NVRAM Reset)

If the problem persists, try resetting the printer’s NVRAM (Non-Volatile Memory):

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold Stop (🔴) and Start Copy (🖨️) simultaneously.
  3. While holding, turn the printer ON.
  4. Keep holding the buttons for 10-15 seconds until the printer resets.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
