Hi @rkittel,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the message "You are being redirected to a secure HTTPS-enabled version of this page" typically occurs when you attempt to access a printer's web interface (Embedded Web Server or EWS) using HTTP instead of HTTPS. Modern browsers enforce HTTPS connections for security, and your printer may not have a trusted security certificate installed, which is causing the issue.
Here’s how to resolve this:
Step 1: Access the Printer's Embedded Web Server
- Make sure your printer and Chrome OS device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Find the printer's IP address:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Network Settings > Wireless Network Test or print a Network Configuration Page.
- Look for the "IPv4 Address" on the page.
- Enter the IP address in your browser's address bar, starting with https:// (e.g., https://192.168.1.100).
Step 2: Bypass the HTTPS Warning
If your printer lacks a trusted security certificate, your browser might display a warning page. You can proceed by doing the following:
- Click on Advanced.
- Select Proceed to [IP address] (unsafe).
Step 3: Generate a Self-Signed Certificate (Optional)
To avoid future warnings, you can generate a self-signed certificate on the printer:
- Open the EWS by entering the printer's IP address in your browser.
- Navigate to the Settings or Network section, then find Security.
- Locate the option to create or install a certificate:
- Choose to create a Self-Signed Certificate.
- Follow the prompts to generate and save the certificate.
Step 4: Import the Certificate into Chrome OS
- Download the certificate from the printer's EWS.
- Open Chrome OS Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Security > Manage Certificates.
- Import the self-signed certificate into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
Step 5: Update Firmware (Recommended)
Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date, as newer firmware may improve HTTPS compatibility:
- Visit HP’s Driver and Software page and search for your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware update.
If the Issue Persists
You may also need to:
- Reset the printer's network settings and reconnect it to the Wi-Fi.
- Use the HP Smart app to manage the printer instead of directly accessing the EWS.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
