Hi @Brotherterry,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're seeing a message saying "one cartridge missing or damaged" on your HP OfficeJet Pro printer, despite having replaced the cartridges and ensuring they are installed correctly, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Installation
Verify Installation:
- Make sure that all cartridges are installed correctly. They should click into place firmly and be seated properly.
Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:
- Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Open Cartridge Access Door: Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
- Remove Cartridges: Carefully remove all the cartridges.
- Check for Obstructions: Look inside the cartridge slots for any obstructions or debris.
- Reinstall Cartridges: Reinstall each cartridge, making sure they click into place. Ensure you are placing each cartridge in its designated slot (e.g., color cartridges in the color slots, black cartridge in the black slot).
Turn On the Printer:
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the message persists.
2. Inspect and Clean Cartridges
Check for Damage:
- Inspect each cartridge for any visible damage. If a cartridge appears damaged, replace it with a new one.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove Cartridges: Remove the cartridges.
- Clean Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the metal contacts on the cartridges and the contact points inside the printer.
- Dry: Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
3. Check Cartridge Compatibility
Verify Cartridge Model:
- Ensure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro model. Refer to the printer's manual or HP’s website for the correct cartridge model.
Use Genuine HP Cartridges:
- If possible, use genuine HP cartridges. Third-party or refilled cartridges may sometimes cause compatibility issues.
4. Reset Printer
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer.
- Unplug: Disconnect the printer from the power source.
- Wait: Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug In: Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
Check for Updates:
- Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve issues with cartridge recognition.
- Using HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device, select your printer, and check for firmware updates.
- Using HP Support Website: Visit HP Support and search for your printer model to find and install any available firmware updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
