Hi @HenrikK,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your printer displays the error "Print head missing or not detected," even though the print head is installed properly, it can be frustrating. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the Power Cord: Disconnect the power cord from the printer and from the power outlet.
  3. Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for about 1-2 minutes to allow it to completely power down and reset.
  4. Plug in and Power On: Reconnect the power cord to the printer and plug it back into the power outlet. Turn on the printer.

2. Check Print Head Installation

  1. Inspect the Print Head: Ensure that the print head is securely installed in its slot. It should be properly seated and locked into place.
  2. Remove and Reinstall: If possible, remove the print head and reinstall it to ensure it is correctly aligned and inserted.

3. Clean Print Head Contacts

  1. Turn off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Access the Print Head: Open the printer cover to access the print head.
  3. Clean Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the electrical contacts on the print head. Avoid touching the nozzles or other sensitive parts.
  4. Dry Thoroughly: Allow the print head contacts to dry completely before reinstalling it back into the printer.

4. Reset the Printer

  1. Printer Menu Reset: Depending on your printer model, there might be an option in the printer menu to reset to factory defaults or reset settings related to the print head. Consult your printer's manual for specific instructions on how to perform a reset.
  2. Power Cycle: After resetting, power cycle the printer by turning it off and on again.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Update Firmware: Visit the printer HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve hardware detection issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
