Hi @SueAC,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already tried basic troubleshooting steps. If you're still encountering the carriage jam error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 despite clearing any obstructions, there are a few additional steps you can try:
Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor issues. Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on.
Reset the Printer: Perform a partial reset of the printer. To do this, turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord.
Check for Debris: Even if you didn't initially see any obstructions, it's worth checking again. Use a flashlight to thoroughly inspect the printer's carriage path for any small pieces of paper or debris that may be causing the jam.
Manually Move the Carriage: Turn off the printer and try gently moving the carriage along its path to ensure it moves freely. If it feels stuck or doesn't move smoothly, there may be an underlying mechanical issue that requires servicing.
Update Firmware/Software: Make sure your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause issues that are resolved in newer versions.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
