Windows 8 and Photosmart 8450 Driver

I just bought a Samsung Ultra Notebook with Windows 8 installed and I have an HP Photosmart 8450. I used the HP driver finder to find what was supposed to be a compatable driver. The driver DOES indicate it is for the Photosmart 8450, yet when I go to print, in the stats window the printer shows offline. I can use my android to print AND of course my Windows XP Pro installed laptop, and they print quite well...yet this driver stil shows the printer offline in the Windows 8 environment. I have done everything I can think of like turning off the printer/ restarting everything to no avail. Any help appreciated! Thanks ahead of time...
