I understand your are experiencing a couple of issues with your Laserjet P1006 printer. I am going to suggest a couple of troubleshooting steps to try and resolve your issue.
Make sure you have completely cleaned up the software from the Control Panel on your Windows 8.1 computer. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling Software.
Next, clean your temp folder. To do this, please follow this YouTube video here.
Once you have performed the steps I listed above, then please install the full feature software using The Printer Install Wizard.
