Unit would not print black. Tried all the suggestions with using the cleaning the printhead - it's a drag that HP won't let you individualy clean the cartridge you are having problems with!? Now I used up all three of my new color cartridges!!!! Oh well. The unit loses the black print easily when replacing cartridges? This sounds like the ink dries up when the resevoir level gets low in the printhead. Some of the ealier posts suggested physically cleaning the printhead - right on the money!! I removed all the inks. Then the printhead(just lift up the arm on the right) slips out. First i tried carefully cleaning with q-tips but it was just caked on there. Look man, I just ran hot water from the tap over, under, and through it. I'm guessing this ink is water based becase the water washed it right off so I tried pushing it right into where the ink is drained into to printhead. I noticed little by little, it started to drool out on the black side until is streamed out. I then did it to color side and those shot right out, so I felt I was on the right track. I tride the plastice stuff with a towel but I used the aerosol duster (air-in-a-can) for the electronics. Made sure it was 100% dry. ***My unit is not under warranty, so, I figured if it doesn't work I would buy a new printer*** Installed everything back in and did five "printhead cleanings". It worked!!!!! We will see how long it lasts. Only problem now is I have to buy all new color cartridges because they were all used using the printhead cleanings - sheesh!! If I knew then what I know now I would have gone strainght to hot water and then the cleaining. Just wanted to help out the community - good luck!!!!
