Counterfeit cartridges message after installing new cartridges, orange light flashing, won't print

I have had the printer about a year or so and never any problems changing the ink, which I buy from Viking Direct and always looks genuine (and sold as). Yesterday I installed new ink (both colour and bw) and an error message came up for both saying counterfeit ink cartridges detected. I believe them to be genuine and so I followed a thread on here where it suggested removing the ink and unplugging it. I did this, then reinserted ink but the same thing happening. I also tried a new set of ink cartridges but same message (though from same supplier too).

The ink has been very low a long time and I left it low while on holiday (though machine off), and so maybe the heads get very dry (does this happen?). 

Although I followed the "do you think these cartridges are genuine" options, it won't print. Just goes into the queue and stays there.
