My HP Officejet 4632 started having an error message on the black cartridge that I had been using. It said on the screen, "the following cartridge must be replaced". Assuming it was low on ink, I bought HP 61Xl black ink from Costco. I installed the brand new cartridge and got the same error. I still had the old cartridge (and another that I must have used before), and I kept getting the same error message. Sometimes it would tell me that the color cartridge was not a genuine cartridge (when it is!).
I have googled the problem. An HP article told me to wipe off the contacts to the cartridges and the contacts in the printer. I did that with a microfiber cloth. Didn't do anything. I also unplugged the printer from the back, waited 60 seconds, and replugged it in. Same problem. I also unplugged the printer from the powerstrip I have always used with it and then plugged it into the wall. Same issue!
I looked into taking the printer to be serviced, but the cloest store is almost two hours away.
Is there anything I am NOT doing, or is it just time for a new printer?
