I had the exact same problem. Printer worked fine until it was time to replace ink cartridge. I have since watched a youtube video by an HP repairman saying that the problem lies with bent contact pins on the print head. They get bent when changing out cartidge (s). That makes sense since the problem did NOT start until I had to replace a cartidge. So far, HP has failed to acknowledge this problem with both the 6600 and 6700 which is disturbing. There is a problem with the blue print heads and they changed them, fixing the problem but all of us who have the printers with the problem, HP has left us hanging, it appears. I printed maybe 4 times, I don't know where the ink went but whatever. I spent $50 on new cartridges, just to get that ridiculous message of printer failure or cartridge problem or whatever the heck it was. I got so mad after speaking with 3 tech support folks, with their numerous ways to troubleshoot, none of which worked. I took the damned thing a part to see if the blue print head with the gold pins were there, YEP...I threw my HP officejet 6700 premium all in one broken printer in the trash. Good luck...
