I used the troubleshooter download (which is no longer available) which is supposed to work around this problem.
but it still doesn't work. I can't use the software. I had to use windows drivers to make the printer, with less functionality.
one of the printer prefs I want and usually have to create is duplex draft to save on ink and paper, which is not available in either the windows built-in printer driver which is probably supplied by HP, or the 14.301 drivers. please put this in all your printer drivers that have a duplexer. the built-in
several things have been hsppening lately around the same time I started getting X's for certain printer icons as of about 3/14/2014-3/15/2014:
- windows udpate
- norton liveupdate probably
- norton "28 days left - time to renew" dialogs.
- some norton traffic rules specific to the printers seem to have disappeared somehow
- I am unable to make new norton traffic rules
I get the big red x with the router-looking image in the HP printer software, where I connect my static IP network printer (wired ethernet). I have the latest printer firmware, and router is pretty solid (worksd for up to 3 months a stretch).
printer software never fully installs because last step always fails (it tells me to pick the printer about 3-4 times). no choice to cancel to get out if I get X. can only do next and retry. please fix. this is a program bug.
HP print and scan dr does nothing for me except say the software is not installed, and then tries to install the software again.
bug?: hp printer software tries to extract printer software to the temp directory, this is not a good place to put installers, (not sure why programmerd do this, it's a bad practice(. antivirus and pc optimization/cleanup programs including windows own tend to clean out the temp directory. bye-bye installer. no uninstaller left, so it's possible it can't can't uninstall if it's brutal enough. extract to some safe known directory.
currently, 14.301 is known for the big red X. HP has not fixed this. please fix and provide this download in the appropriate place in the a909g product page.
the windows built-in driver's save as button for any printer pref doesn't work. it's always grayed. so I am stuck with using more ink than I want to use.
please make these engineering changes to the product's software. I would like a new full driver that works. I would also like a repaired windows built-in driver.
