@Tote44, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
And thanks for sharing the image—what you’re seeing on your HP DeskJet GT 5820 (all lights blinking, display stuck with an “E” and cartridge icons) is a classic sign of a critical error state. Here’s a breakdown of what this typically means and what you can try next:
What the Lights Mean (from your image):
- All lights blinking simultaneously: Indicates a fatal error—the printer has encountered a condition it cannot recover from automatically.
- “E” on the display: Stands for “Error.”
- Cartridge icons blinking: Most commonly means one or both ink cartridges are not recognized, are missing, or are malfunctioning.
- Wireless & info button LEDs: Also blinking, indicating the printer is not communicating properly over the network.
Steps to Troubleshoot:
Check Ink Cartridges Physically
Remove and reinsert the cartridges:
- Power off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
- Take out both the black and color ink cartridges.
- Make sure there's no tape on the cartridge contacts.
- Clean the copper-colored contacts with a lint-free cloth (lightly dampened with distilled water).
- Reinsert them firmly and close the door.
Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions
- Remove any paper from input and output trays.
- Open all access areas and inspect for even tiny scraps of paper or obstructions.
- Rotate the rollers gently if you can.
Hard Reset
Since the factory reset didn’t work, try a hardware reset:
- With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds while reconnecting the cord.
- Release the button and see if the lights stabilize.
Service Mode Reset (Optional)
Try pressing and holding:
- Cancel (X) + Wireless + Power until the printer powers off and restarts. This sometimes triggers a deep firmware reset. If it doesn't, just unplug and restart manually.
Update Firmware (If Accessible)
If you're ever able to connect to the printer briefly via USB, try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows) or update firmware manually from HP's website: 👉HP GT 5820 Drivers and Firmware

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
