Hey ,

I understand that the control panel display on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer is 'washed out' and that is preventing you from making Copies from your printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now, we are going to need to troubleshoot the display issue on your printer in order to restore your Copying ability, as the only way to perform Copies from your printer is through the front panel display. With that being said, can I please have you follow the steps below.

  • Solution one: Turn the printer off and then on again:
  1. Press the Power button to turn OFF the printer.
  2. Wait 60 seconds, and then press the Power button to turn ON the printer.

Should the display issue persist, please proceed to the next step.

  • Solution two: Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet:
  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the printer's power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors and then plug it directly into a grounded wall outlet.
  3. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, and then try to use the menu to check if the printer control panel is functional.

Should the issue persist, please proceed.

  • Solution three: Reset the printer:

1. Turn the printer ON, if it is not already ON.

2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

3. With the printer turned ON, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  • NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet

7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

8. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn ON.
9. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

10.  Once ON, please check display on printer to confirm that issue has now been resolved. Should issue persist, please continue to the next step.

  • Solution four: Update Firmware:

The Firmware is the internal programming within your printer. Essentially, it is the 'brains' of the printer and controls what your printer does and how your printer does it. If the internal programming is corrupt it may cause performance issues with your printer. Please clickhere to download the latest Firmware version for your printer. Once the download is complete please follow the onscreen prompts to 'send' the Firmware to your printer. Once updated, check the display of your printer.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, there is an additional Semi-Full Programming Reset we can attempt. If the steps I've provided resolve this display issue, please mark this post as a Solution so other users of the HP Support Forums can easily find these steps. I look forward to hearing from you!
